There has been extensive discussion of the so-called “Charleston loophole” by which Dylann Roof was allegedly permitted to purchase the handgun used in the nine murders at Charleston’s Emanuel AME Zion Church on June 17, 2015.
At a Chicago rally last Feb. 17, Hillary Clinton said the following: “All we want is common sense. We want comprehensive background checks that close the gun-show loophole and online loophole. We want to close what is called the Charleston loophole.
Karen Denise Fischer of Lancaster and Nathan Lee Mackey of Charlotte were united in marriage on Saturday, June 18, 2016 at one o’clock in the afternoon at Sherwood Baptist Church in Lancaster. Myra McCant’s letter about the “fat mirror” was very funny.
I have written many letters in honor of our police. I did not know Myra’s son Brent McCants, a deputy who was murdered in 1992, but I’m sure he was a good man because I know Myra and her other son Billy Dale.
Our police have a dangerous job. They look after us. We also must watch out for them, because they have families also.
I don’t expect to be here much longer, but I want to leave a legacy that my letters helped save one police officer.

The impact of the winter storm over the weekend led to one county basketball game being rescheduled for later this month.
Buford High School’s road basketball game with Chesterfield, which was slated for Friday, Jan. 6, has been reset for Thursday, Jan. 19.
The girls game is at 6 p.m., with the boys to play at 7:30.
The game was the first region game for Buford to open the 2017 schedule.

Alabama for the College Football Playoff National Championship, my thoughts went back to Christmas Eve, 2013.
That day I recall buying a USA Today, which in that holiday edition focused on college football recruiting.
In the issue, I remember reading about a Clemson University football recruit named Deshaun Watson, considered the nation’s top dual threat quarterback.
