Nullification is needed now more than ever before

This column is in response to Phil Noble’s column, “Nullification – are these guys nuts?” in the April 5 issue of The Lancaster News.
Null and void, annulment, cancellation, repeal, eradication and do away with are some of the words and terms that explain what nullification means. Nowhere can I find that the word nullification means “nuts.”
But what kind of nuts are you thinking of? Do you mean tree nuts like walnuts? Or the slang symbolism metaphor describing a person who is handicapped with a mental condition?

Walnut Creek Park a welcome addition

After more than four years of waiting, the excitement was palpable as Lancaster County officials cut the ribbon April 24 to officially open Walnut Creek Park.
The event, originally slated for last October, but delayed due to legal issues, drew local officials and residents, all eager to see the new 60-acre, $7 million county park complex in Indian Land.

Police find missing woman

Police have found a missing Lancaster woman unharmed, days after she reportedly made a disturbing phone call.
Lancaster Police Capt. Scott Grant said officers located Clydie Snipes Putnam, 55, on Thursday, May 9. Putnam was last heard from on Tuesday after making a phone call stating she was going to take her life, Grant said.
In a police department press release sent Thursday afternoon, Grant said Putnam had been found “alive and well.”

Two arrested in motel on multiple drug charges

A search of a motel room ended with a long list of drug charges for two Lancaster residents early Monday, April 29.
Police arrested Marcus Demario Barnes, 27, 1841 Steele St., and Stephanie Breann Snipes, 22, 1296 W. Shore Drive, shortly after noticing several drugs in their room at the Super 8 motel, 1201 S.C. 9 Bypass, according to a Lancaster Police Department media report.

LSS hosts Driving for the Dream

One of Lancaster Super Speedway’s special nights of the season is set for Saturday, May 18.

LSS will hosts its annual Driving for the Dream, a fundraiser for the Lancaster Dream Team.

Man dies after ejected from truck

A Lancaster man died early Sunday, May 12, after he was ejected from a pickup truck along a county road. 

Otis Patterson, 44, was pronounced dead at the scene of the one-vehicle accident shortly after 2 a.m., said Lancaster County Deputy Coroner Tony Broome. He died from blunt force trauma to his head and chest, Broome said. 

Armed robbers hold up Antioch Grocery

At least two men, possibly three people, are wanted in connection with an armed robbery at Antioch Grocery on Wednesday, May 8, in which a clerk was injured by a masked gunman. 

Then, a customer, who walked into the store while the crime was in progress, had a gun pointed at him, according to witnesses at the scene.

Springtime Lyme disease precautions

Ticks, mosquitoes, biting flies, fleas and mites are capable of carrying Borrelia burgdorferi, or, as it’s more commonly known, Lyme disease.
Dr. Paul Meade, of the Centers for Disease Control, called Lyme disease an “epidemic” at a 2010 Institute of Medicine meeting.
