Leadership Lancaster expands my...

I routinely tease Dean Faile for a comment he seemed to make at each Leadership Lancaster session.

“This is by far my favorite day of the entire program!” I’m pretty sure I heard him say that at least four times during our six-month program sponsored by the Lancaster County Chamber of Commerce.

When looking back, though, I can see why he was moved to that opinion.

Did you know that taxpayers are helping to fund a nonprofit business enterprise whose attorneys lobby the Statehouse while this business directs and dictates public policies to South Carolina’s county councils? This practice creates a conflict because taxpayer funds are being spent to lobby for an agenda that taxpayers cannot vote on and for policy positions that might not be supported by taxpayers. This business enterprise is the S.C. Association of Counties (SCAC).

The bowling lanes at the Kershaw Recreation Center at Stevens Park are taking on a new life.
Thanks to a major renovation project, the lanes sport a more pleasing, modern look.
Back in February, Kershaw Town Council voted to allocate $118,330 from the town’s reserve fund for the bowling alley’s major improvements.
Town officials have considered ways to increase attendance at Stevens Park and use of its facilities, and the bowling alley has been a major part of those discussions.

With the completion of the 2013 Lancaster County spring sports season, seven county teams earned state rankings in the final state polls.

Time to limit government...

The nation learned in May that the Justice Department secretly obtained the phone records of more than 100 Associated Press reporters and monitored Fox News reporter James Rosen’s personal email and cell phone records, branding him a “possible co-conspirator” in a classified leak case for asking questions to a government source.
These revelations sent shock waves throughout newsrooms nationwide. Reporters can no longer assure their sources that interviews will remain confidential because there is no way to tell whether the government is listening.

Up, up and away!

It looks almost like a scene from a science fiction movie. Lines of sleek, white motorless planes speckle a field near the border of Lancaster and Kershaw counties. Anxious pilots wait as an airplane soars overhead, towing one of the machines through the sky.

This is the 18-Meter National Championship gliding competition, an event that gathers the best glider pilots in the U.S. and Canada to compete in a series of challenges.

Makos fall to Camden swimmers

 

   

The Lancaster Makos are 0-1 after falling to host Camden 308-301 on Saturday, June 8.

The Makos were led by Taylor Teague, Nathan Reid, Grace Scott and Anna Funderburk with four wins each.
