It didn’t take Frances Jackson long to realize something was up the morning of Nov. 19.
Four doors down from her Clinton Avenue home, where Camp Creek and Hannah’s Creek flow together, the pavement was covered by rushing water from an overnight deluge, most of which fell between midnight and dawn.
Andrew Jackson High School volleyball coach John Verdugo is yielding his duties as the Lady Volunteers’ volleyball coach.
“After six years, I have stepped down as the head volleyball coach at Andrew Jackson High School,” Verdugo said. “It has been a privilege to work with these athletes. With the help of my assistants, coach Tammy Twitty and coach Danielle Payne, we were able to revitalize the AJ volleyball program at all levels.
“We feel very confident the program is postured for future success,” he said.
HEATH SPRINGS – Phase V, the last stage of water-line upgrades for the town of Heath Springs, has been completed.
Now, it’s just a matter of getting the water flowing.
In the next few days or weeks, problems with low water pressure and discolored water should be resolved.

A team of Clemson golfers halted the University of South Carolina and University of South Carolina Lancaster’s run in the 14th annual Big Thursday golf tournament at the Lancaster Golf Club on Nov. 19.
The Tigers prevailed with an 8-5 win over the team of Gamecocks and Lancers players.
A year ago in a close win, the Lancers and Gamecocks notched an 8.5-7-5 win over the Tigers golfers.
Lancaster Super Speedway will host the grand opening of the LSS’s new Mud Bog track Nov. 21.
The opening includes the new Lancaster Super Speedway ATV endurance and obstacle 8.8 acre complex and the Lancaster Super Speedway 280-foot Mud Bog competition pit.
The official opening of the ATV Complex is at 10 a.m.
The charge is $25 for all-day passes, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The mud bog registration begins at 11 a.m.
The mud bog area is open to the tire sizes 33- 35, 36-38, 40-42 and 44-46.

LEXINGTON – Buford High School volleyball fans saw the Lady Jackets fall short in their state title quest, but they were still enthusiastic in their praise of the team's banner season.
In Saturday's contest in Lexington, the team fell to Charleston's Bishop England High School, which has won a national record 26 state titles in the 46-year-old Palmetto State volleyball championship tournament, including the last 16 in a row.
LEXINGTON – Bishop England, in historic fashion, garnered a national record 16th straight state volleyball championship, but with more effort than it had needed before.
The 35-9 Lady Bishops did post their familiar sweep – 3-0 – but Upstate upstart Buford High School made the BEHS girls earn another court crown jewel.
The Lady Bishops, who have a national record 26 state titles, earned another national mark with their 16th straight state volleyball crown.
