Today's Opinions

  • Holt is about serving the people

Public offices require someone with a history of public service. I’m voting for Jerry Holt for probate judge because he has a long history of serving our country and Lancaster County.

He served in the Marines and has been active in Lancaster County on the planning commission and volunteering for veterans service groups.

Mr. Holt’s business experience and education mean he will be able to run the probate judge’s office like a business, saving time and money.

  • Probate judge states her case for re-election

I am honored and humbled to be running for re-election for probate judge of Lancaster County.

I have spent the last two decades working tirelessly to serve the people of this county with honesty and integrity, and most importantly, with compassion.

I have spent the majority of my adult life in Lancaster County; serving the people of this county is my passion.

  • Voters have a chance to make a difference on Nov. 4

Nov. 4 is the day we can do something about our country, and our local government – Election Day. Now normally a midterm election is ignored by many voters. But because of the direction our country is going, this election is extremely important.

If you don’t take the time to exercise your right then you need not complain. You had your chance to speak out and you chose not to.

  • I have the experience to make a difference

With more than 12 years in the criminal courts of South Carolina, I have been in the trenches daily and seen what works.

  • I have a realistic plan for solicitor’s office

As your current assistant solicitor, I have seen the problems and issues facing our community first hand, and I have developed a plan to address them.

Many people comment on what goes on in the solicitors office, but they are on the outside looking in. I am on the inside and I see it every day. I have a plan to make the solicitor’s office more efficient and more effective.

I bring something to the table that many legal professionals don’t have and that’s real world experience.

  • Newman seeks to keep community safe for us all

As an Indian Land Elementary School teacher, I come in contact with and are affected by politics on a regular basis. The support, concern and effectiveness of our political leaders are a key part to our jobs and personal lives. My home was burglarized in 2012 and it was a frightening and emotional experience for my family.

  • May the best man for the job win

I have known Randy Newman and his wife, Jill, for about five and a half years through the church we both attend. He seems to be a great guy, so does his wife and little boy.

Mr. Newman has run a clean campaign. He has not said anything negative about his opponent. He stands on the work he has done in the years that he was the assistant under Doug Barfield. William Frick has made mention of backlogs, reduced sentences by Mr. Newman, but this started a long time before Mr. Newman took over the job.

  • Newman has passion for prosecuting

I feel that Randy Newman is the best choice for the 6th District solicitor for the following reasons:

Randy worked his way through college, sold his house to go to law school and knew that he wanted to be a prosecutor.

Randy clerked for Judge Goldsmith before going to work in the solicitor’s office. When Randy decided to go to law school he left a job that paid more than he is making now which shows me how much passion he has for the job. I would also like to speak about experience. All of Randy’s experience is as a prosecutor.
