  • Don’t criticize Iran deal without an alternative

In response to Dr. Brooks Walker’s column, “Iran renews Hamas support,” in the Sept. 4 edition of The Lancaster News, again I read another complaint against the deal with Iran without an alternative.

Iran was renewing its support of Hamas prior to the signing of the deal.

This renewal of relations between Iran and Hamas was a result of Hamas withdrawing support of the rebels fighting Assad in Syria.

  • Reader questions Freeman’s appointment

Several days ago, I emailed Lancaster County Councilman Larry McCullough two questions about the recent appointment of David Freeman to the Lancaster County Planning Commission.

I received a quick response, but no direct answer to either question.

He did, however, provide a phone number to discuss. I replied and noted that I would prefer to keep the conversation on email for the public record.

I then asked my first question again: What are Mr. Freeman’s specific qualifications for this position?

  • Five words to describe Trump

In Bruce Miller’s Sept. 4 column, “Trump trumps Trump in GOP debate,” he used hundreds of words to tell us why the right is so smitten with Donald Trump.

Five would have sufficed – white, old, born rich and racist.

  • Manasseh proves evil men do repent

The Bible records the life of King Manasseh in 2 Kings 21 and 2 Chronicles 33. He had an ungodly grandfather (Ahaz) and a godly father (Hezekiah). He became king of Judah at the age of 12, and reigned for 55 years, the longest term of any of the Hebrew kings.

  • Teachers make a difference

Young people across this country have begun or are about to begin a new school year. I am reminded of a time 50 years ago when I was one of those young people. It was Aug. 26, 1965. I was 8 years old and entering the third grade at H.R. Rice Elementary School.

What I didn’t know then but know now is what a pivotal moment that would be in my life.

  • Trump trumps Trump in GOP debate

Many people have told us over the years about the use of body language. Add to this commentary the use of facial expressions and you have a recipe for disaster.

Take the recent TV debate between the top 10 Republican candidates and look at the body language and facial expressions used by the panel of moderators. When did the news become personal opinion?

  • Iran renews Hamas support

William St. Cloud’s Aug. 21 column, “Congress should not deny deal with Iran,” said we need to support the President Barack Obama/Sen. John Kerry deal with Iran for peace in the Middle East. I was amazed that there are people so uninformed at what is going on with this agreement.

I will not go into a laundry list of reasons why this deal is a disaster, but let me share a recent report that may help lift the blinders off the eyes of those who just nod yes to whatever a liberal leader tells them.

  • IL school situation has become dire

I am following up on Brian Endres’ letter, “IL Residents Disappointed with Board,” in the Aug. 26 edition of The Lancaster News. Endres was very polite in his invitation to Dr. Gene Moore and the rest of the school board to visit our Indian Land schools to witness first hand the overcrowding situation.

I second his invitation, and I will do my best to follow his polite tone.

I implore the parents of children in Indian Land schools to attend the next school board meeting to be held at 7 p.m. Sept. 15.
