Today's Opinions

  • Canty left lasting impression on others

We are always losing the people who are dearest to us, and I suppose the ones left behind are the ones God is not finished with yet.

There are many good Samaritans out there, but I want to tell you of one I think of often because of her desire to help people.

That person was Patricia “Pat” Canty, who has gone on to be with the Lord. Pat helped so many people in her social work. I thought of her going to church when she was not feeling up to par.

  • Is the end in sight?

Does Independence Day sorta make you stand back and think?  For generations, Americans have revered those brave men who got America started.

Now the politically correct have determined that our forefathers were a rotten bunch of slave holders and full of other vices.

  • America following Rome’s path

With the two unconstitutional decisions handed down from the insane Supreme Court, this country is now firmly on the road that Rome took centuries ago.

Chief Justice Roberts may just as well change his name to Ginsberg for his asinine logic pertaining to the health care act.

Justice Scalia, on the other hand, was spot on by stating, “Words can no loner have meaning if an exchange that is not established by a state is “ ‘established by the state.’ ”

  • IL precincts to improve our voting process

Last year, Lancaster County was named the fastest growing county in South Carolina. One of the challenges growth brings is keeping up with the increasing number of voters so voting in elections is simple, easy and fast.

To help keep up with these changes, a bi-partisan effort by our county’s legislators has created new precincts and voting locations for Lancaster County voters, for which they should be congratulated.

  • Council should hang its head in shame

Being in animal rescue is not an easy thing to do. Not easy on the pocketbook, or on your emotions. Seeing what we see day in and day out takes its toll on all of us.

Add in seeing healthy, sweet adoptable pets being euthanized at our county shelter, mainly due to lack of room, is heart breaking when it can so easily be fixed.

  • Lancaster could learn from Chesterfield

Chesterfield County built a animal shelter that cost more than $900,000. The residents there spoke up and the county listened. It is a modern up-to-date facility that has more than 80 dog runs and a cat house. Chesterfield County has less than half of the animal intake as Lancaster County.

Lancaster County Animal Control has asked the county for a simple pole barn with kennels for many years, but has always been told the county ran out ot money.

  • Our culture is being poisoned

The Confederate Flag was removed  from a Civil War Monument in Columbia  because it was claimed to be a symbol of hate for the shooter of nine people in a Charleston church. The truth is that the flag was used as a symbol of hate when it was used for a hundred years by the racist Democrat Party wing known as the KKK.

Hate for everything American is still growing.  Rush Limbaugh said the progressive, illiberal left would next attack the American flag. Even Fox News did not like or believe this statement.

  • June 17: Denmark Vesey and Clementa Pinckney

One of the questions of the tragic killing of the Rev. Clementa Pinckney and eight of his church members at Emanuel AME Church is why him? And why now?

Maybe, just maybe, the answer is the date – June 17th. It was on this date that Dylann Roof opened fire. It was also on this date, 193 years earlier, that Denmark Vesey, a founder of Emanuel, planned to launch a slave rebellion in Charleston.
