  • South Carolina should not fear competition

    Last week, the South Carolina Senate undertook the clearly political exercise unprecedented in South Carolina history of subpoenaing my staff to ask them questions about my office’s involvement in DHEC’s granting of a permit for the dredging of the Savannah port. They concluded, unequivocally, what we had said all along: Neither I nor anyone who works for me played a role in this decision one way or another.

  • You can always count on the left to brush aside facts

    Ann Coulter said it best in her column, “Once you go conservative black, you’d better watch your back.”
    What she means by this is the frenzy of coverage that Herman Cain has gotten for those so-called sexual harassment allegations. First off, there is not one shred of evidence brought forward so far against Mr. Cain. The credibility of these women is very suspect.

  • SCDOT needs to do better job of maintaining U.S. 521

    Editor’s note: Tom and Maryanne White  sent the following letter and photos to the Lancaster Maintenance Office of the S.C. Department of Transportation regarding the upkeep of U.S. 521 in Indian Land. The letter was sent in early November and, within days, the grass was mowed.

  • There’s never a shortage of scammers

    Even at the age of 92, the homeowner was aware the men on the other side of her front door were would-be scammers. When they asked her to walk outside and help them hold a tape measure, she refused, then closed and locked the door.
    Minutes later they gained access to her house by breaking in through her back door. She pressed her life alert button and told the men help was on the way. They left before the deputies arrived at her house.

  • Roscoe’s record makes him elite football coach

    Every football fan in America knows that it is virtually impossible to win two state football championships in consecutive years. This is especially true in the competitive North Carolina AAA championship contest. However, former Lancaster High School coach Johnny Roscoe’s Northern Guilford Nighthawks accomplished this impossible task by defeating Shelby Crest High School by a score of 31 to 7 at the University of North Carolina’s Kenan Stadium.

  • Council should consider young person’s request

    I applaud the courage and determination of Dustin Owens, who met with Lancaster City Council to request its consideration of a facility for a skating center for the young people in the community. He used the proper procedure to voice the issue to council and presented the issue in a dignified and informed manner.
    He stated the reasons this issue should be given consideration by council members and also offered a solution to accept his idea. It might be a possibility this young man has a future in politics.
