  • Dream Team Foundation says thanks for support

The Dream Team Foundation is a registered 501C3 nonprofit organization in Lancaster. Our mission is to enrich the lives of children with disabilities through a variety of activities. We were formed in 2007 and will begin our fifth season in September.
Our program is a free program for any Lancaster County youth between the ages of 6-21 who have any form of mental or physical disability. Our program is funded by donations and sponsorships from individuals and businesses.

  • Time to reform pension system

While it doesn’t often make headlines, funding the state retirement system is among the most important challenges facing state government.
State employees have 6.5 percent deducted from their paychecks to go toward their retirement benefits, and their employers contribute an even higher 9.68 percent toward those benefits. Employees expect the pension system to remain healthy so benefits will be there when they retire.

  • Mobley is right choice for USC trustees

What might have been a possible negative result with the election of Greg Gregory to the S.C. Senate has become a real positive for Lancaster County.
Last spring when Gregory was elected to the state senate, Lancaster County was able to hold its long link to the coveted seat in the state Legislature.
At the same time, Gregory, with his return to the state Senate, had to yield his post on the University of South Carolina Board of Trustees.

  • The good and bad of social networking

We have become so dependent on social networking that functioning without it would be a real challenge – commercially and personally. We Facebook, Tweet and text almost nonstop. Social networking has so many positive attributes. It also has its bad side.
If you read our July 10 edition of The Lancaster News, you saw some examples of the good and bad of social networking.

  • Florida jury failed justice for Caylee

In all professions, there are some who are excellent, most who are average, and some who are not-so-good. As we have viewed the justice for Caylee in the Florida court, we have witnessed some of the worst on the Casey Anthony defense team.
The purpose of this criminal trial was to provide justice for Caylee. Under our Constitution and general statutes, it is important for all to understand that all accused of crime are innocent until proven guilty. All trial witnesses and evidence must be open and honest.

  • Dr. Adams shared garden, stories, dreams with resident

I work at the information office in Kershaw for the Haile Gold Mine. My dad from Tennessee passed away last Christmas.
Immediately after, Dr. Ira Adams began coming to visit me. I only wish I had told him how much I enjoyed his visits. He reminded me so much of my dad, how he talked of his gardening. He would come through the door with a bag of collards. He was the one who introduced us to the South Carolina greens.

  • It’s important to teach young people how to manage money

  • Lame-stream media fails

    Ronald Hopkins

What a gang of hypocrites the liberals are. Lets start with golf. When George W. Bush was president, the liberal left couldn’t bash him enough for going golfing so much. President Barack Obama, “the anointed one,” has hit the greens more in his first two years than Bush did in his eight years. Not much from the lame-stream media on this.
