Today's Opinions

  • Jaylen’s grandmother angry about verdict

It has been almost two months and I still can’t believe the verdict Marico Stevens received in the death of my grandbaby, Jaylen Jackson. Stevens was arrested May 6, 2010, in the shooting death of Jaylen.
Anthony Carter, who was also charged in Jaylen’s death, was found guilty.
Yes, I’m mad at the state and jurors. But there is a higher power than them. Jaylen wasn’t but 3 years old. We’ve not had her to celebrate her birthday and Christmas for two years. Yet, a person charged in her death is walking the streets free.

  • Writer grateful for honest person

I just want to thank my Christmas angel who found my mother’s money in Walmart’s parking lot and turned it in.
You have earned a gold star in heaven.

  • Angel Tree coordinators grateful for support

We would like to send a special thanks to everyone who sponsored an angel from the Angel trees, the anonymous monetary donations and the food given to families for the holidays.
The businesses that placed Angel trees helped sponsor 1,356 children.
We also thank the Toys for Tots, which donated a lot of toys and stocking stuffers, as well as the schools that did the same.
We’re grateful for those who donated coats and scarves. We thank God for these wonderful supporters.

  • Habitat is grateful for support

The board of directors of Habitat for Humanity of Lancaster County would like to thank all who supported our New Year’s Eve “Topping Out” celebration and fundraiser.
It was a great time for a good cause, to usher in the New Year. We were honored to receive support from people, organizations and businesses all across the county. Your support is helping us reach our goal of providing affordable housing for lower-income families in Lancaster County.

  • For improvement, look in mirror, not to Washington

“Your life isn’t changed by the man that’s elected..” – Avett Brothers
Americans look with desperation to Washington to solve our problems. For many of us, however, our largest problem is in the mirror. For what we are doing to ourselves through lack of exercise and an atrocious diet presents a much greater threat to our well-being than an entrenched Congress.

  • Is tax cut on tax or insurance?

As I write this letter to the editor, the liberal Democratic Party and President Barack Obama are trying to extend the payroll tax cut.
The thing they’re not informing you of is that this is not a tax cut. This money is going to you instead of going to the Social Security fund.
That’s right, the Social Security fund is being short-changed again. Obama is telling you it’s needed to boost the economy, yet this tax cut has been in effect for almost a year and it’s had zero effect.
