  • Churches need armed congregants

A faith group in my town recently held a worship event with about 350 plus people in attendance. They expected people from several states and foreign countries including Nigeria, South Africa, Botswana, United Kingdom and Canada. The International group came together in celebration of their Christian faith to worship and recognize academic achievement.

  • Harrell pays the Probation Agency with campaign funds

Eight days after pleading guilty to misspending $93,958 from his campaign account, ex-S.C. House Speaker Bobby Harrell paid $3,517 from the account to the state probation department, campaign records show – money which the agency says was credited toward his court-ordered restitution.

  • Gun control: The answer is no

“I’ve had to make statements like this too many times,” President Barack Obama said after the recent shootings at a church in Charleston. “Once again, innocent people were killed in part because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on a gun.”

Hillary Clinton, front-runner for the Democratic Party’s 2016 presidential nomination, chimed in as well.

  • Can we afford not to act now on IL schools?

In recent months, the Indian Land area continues to hear about new and exciting changes coming to our area and how Lancaster County has been named the fastest-growing county in the state. Growth, growth and more growth – all of which is positive for Indian Land area residents and the entire county, if done correctly.

The sheriff’s office is looking at adding a special fee district to help support the growth in the area and Lancaster County Council has implemented new overlays to help develop Indian Land with some zoning control.

  • Canty left lasting impression on others

We are always losing the people who are dearest to us, and I suppose the ones left behind are the ones God is not finished with yet.

There are many good Samaritans out there, but I want to tell you of one I think of often because of her desire to help people.

That person was Patricia “Pat” Canty, who has gone on to be with the Lord. Pat helped so many people in her social work. I thought of her going to church when she was not feeling up to par.

  • Is the end in sight?

Does Independence Day sorta make you stand back and think?  For generations, Americans have revered those brave men who got America started.

Now the politically correct have determined that our forefathers were a rotten bunch of slave holders and full of other vices.

  • America following Rome’s path

With the two unconstitutional decisions handed down from the insane Supreme Court, this country is now firmly on the road that Rome took centuries ago.

Chief Justice Roberts may just as well change his name to Ginsberg for his asinine logic pertaining to the health care act.

Justice Scalia, on the other hand, was spot on by stating, “Words can no loner have meaning if an exchange that is not established by a state is “ ‘established by the state.’ ”

  • IL precincts to improve our voting process

Last year, Lancaster County was named the fastest growing county in South Carolina. One of the challenges growth brings is keeping up with the increasing number of voters so voting in elections is simple, easy and fast.

To help keep up with these changes, a bi-partisan effort by our county’s legislators has created new precincts and voting locations for Lancaster County voters, for which they should be congratulated.
