Letters

Imagine, your mother, daughter, sister, relative or close friend being beaten by her spouse or boyfriend.
Imagine severe bruises on her face and body where she was punched over and over again. Imagine being hauled around with a gun held to her head.
Imagine her having to go to work or school where she had to face co-workers and classmates. Imagine everyone talking about her but no one offers to help her.
Imagine three months later she was found dead, beaten and raped by her partner. Imagine what you could have done to help her.

Sure, this election is historic on several fronts, but this is not a time to back-slap ourselves silly. There’s enough wrong that has to be fixed in all areas of state and federal government.
Take a quick look at the people of South Carolina. I’m totally confounded how 308,000 South Carolinians could seriously review their ballots and still select the likes of Alvin Green to be their representative. It’s disturbing. Talking heads say “they obviously voted a straight ticket.”  

Congratulations to Wilma Blackmon on the letter she wrote on Mayor Joe Shaw. He is a very dedicated mayor and an honest man.
My personal experience is I was eating in a restaurant in Lancaster. When I got to the cashier with my tray, I did not have any money. I had to tell the cashier to hold my tray until I found my wallet.
Mayor Shaw and his loving wife, Charlotte, came to my aid. He offered to pay for my lunch. I told him I had just been to the bank, so his wife said, “Let’s go to the car and look.” There was my wallet on the front seat.

Rosemary Whitlock’s fine article on the funding for our new courthouse leaves me sorta wondering.
The days she recalls, when leftover pennies were shoved aside, have changed some.
Pennies are now saved in Mason jars and counted out when the heel in the bread loaf is all that remains.
