    The Indian Land Middle School PTA would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who donated to the annual Teacher Appreciation Week.  
    Special thanks to Carolina Bistro, Wing King of Fort Mill, Jersey Mike’s, Showmars, McDonald’s and Founders Federal Credit Union, as well as several parents and community members.
    The teachers and staff have been so appreciative of the special treats all week long.

  • Editor's note

    A letter to the editor, “HOPE appreciates support,” in the Wednesday, May 16, edition of The Lancaster News identified the person arrested for forgery and theft from HOPE in Lancaster Inc. The original press release did not contain the name of the person arrested. When editing the release, The Lancaster News added the person’s name because she had been identified by the State Law Enforcement Division in the newspaper’s prior stories.

  • HOPE appreciates support

    Christy Leann Ellis of Lancaster was recently arrested and charged with forgery and theft estimated at more than $60,000 from HOPE in Lancaster Inc. Hope is a 501(c)(3,) non-profit organization that provides assistance with food and utility bills to area families.
    After becoming aware of the forgery, Hope immediately notified the S.C. Law Enforcement Division (SLED) and Ellis’ arrest was the result of SLED’s swift actions. Eillis will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

  • Coakley insightful speaker

    Vince Coakley, the host of a popular Charlotte radio program, was the guest speaker at the recent TEA party meeting several weeks ago.
    Coakley, who hosts the program each day on WBT, gave an interesting speech to about 80 people at the meeting.
    He is an excellent speaker. The father of four shared many insightful experiences. He is knowledgeable in many areas of public concern.
    He is a strong supporter of the Constitution and free enterprise. He is a delightful man, both humorous and serious. It sounds like God has given him a lot of wisdom.

  • Noble’s diatribe fails to address real issues

    I read the guest column from Phil Noble, “Republican corruption, taxes and our children,” in the May 9 edition of The Lancaster News and I have to give Democrats credit for being consistent.
    Whether it is President Barack Obama at the federal level or Democrats at the state and County Council level, the message is the same: Raise taxes.
    Can you imagine the impact to a state that is at more than 9 percent unemployment rate taking another billion dollars out of the economy?

  • Candidates must also follow rules

    Two simple forms. In South Carolina, candidates have to file two simple forms on the same day for political office. Seems simple enough.
    Last week, the S.C. Supreme Court kicked more than 100 candidates off the ballot because they didn’t follow the rules and didn’t file two simple forms on the same day.

  • If Lancaster is the wild West, Faile would be Matt Dillon

    Our Sheriff Barry Faile doesn’t have to prove anything. His record speaks for itself. His dad, Williford Faile, was one of the best sheriffs Lancaster County ever had.
    Barry Faile also worked under former Sheriff Johnny Cauthen, who was also one of the best.
    So, if you want a sheriff who knows the job from top to bottom and you want Lancaster cleaned up, vote Barry Faile.
    If Lancaster was the wild West, Barry Faile would be Matt Dillion.

  • Faile runs a professional department

    As a recently retired deputy with Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office and a concerned citizen, I was appalled to see the letter, “We need some changes made in county,” written by former deputy Jim King, who is one of Scott Case’s chief campaign agents.
    Sheriff Barry Faile is a professional law enforcement officer who has a background and experience is second to none in this region. His credibility has never been questioned and he has spent his entire career in public service.

  • Krugman not reliable with facts, either

    I’d  like to respond to Michael Jedson’s April 20 letter, “Whittlesey needs to get facts right.”
    Most people who put down Fox News and Rush Limbaugh do not watch or listen to either one. If you are going to state they aren’t reliable on facts, I wouldn’t come back with quotes from Paul Krugman.
    He is a leftist elite who thinks – as they all do – that they should lead and the masses should just follow as sheep, or as the liberals prefer, mobs.

  • Time for us to behave ourselves

    When I’m  out of town, I rely on the Internet to keep abreast of  what’s happening at home.
    Locals are calling Lancaster County the wild West and out-of-town newspapers publish every incident of wrong doing attributed to current and former Lancaster folks. Comments from readers of those articles usually have plenty of disparaging comments about Lancaster and us.
    Years ago, we dared to cross the river after sundown. Sure looks like the bad chickens have come home to roost.
