  • Jobs bill doesn’t cut Social Security, Medicare

Politicians and their supporters often get the facts regarding complicated bills muddled, and deliver misleading information to the public.
In a letter supporting U.S. Rep. Mick Mulvaney’s opposition to the American Jobs Act, Nicholas Pasquine states that the bill cuts $175 billion annually out of Social Security and Medicare.

  • Lancaster team supports Santorum for presiden

One Republican candidate has gathered a lot of support here in Lancaster County.
Former Sen. Rick Santorum has the most impressive support team list of any candidate. These volunteers have all expressed that it is Santorum’s consistency, experience, conservatism, faith and leadership that have played a very large role in why they all have chosen to stand behind the senator as their pick for the Republican preferential primary Jan. 21.
Here is the Lancaster County for Rick Santorum team:

  • Do not underestimate S.C; it can choose leaders

South Carolina has always been the first in the South to lead. We have never allowed other states to dictate our resolve and we have always been ready to defend it.
One need only to remember the American Revolution, when the British thought South Carolina would be an easy fight:
Ten British ships with 318 cannon opened fire on a tiny fort in Charleston called Fort Moultrie.
Inside were just 344 Continental soldiers with a handful of militia, 30 cannons and a number of South Carolina’s best sharpshooters.

  • Romney has not served this nation well

I would urge anyone who is considering voting for Mitt Romney to go online and watch the video describing his time as CEO of a private equity firm that bought up and sold off small plants and factories (go to www.winningourfuture.com ).

  • Congress needs to do what’s best for country, not itself

As our society becomes more apathetic, due to our government looking out for themselves and not the people of the United States, we will see the country and society become less able to handle or solve its problems.
I just read that the “Super Committee” couldn’t come to an agreement on what or where to cut spending to get to the $1.2 trillion they were expected to achieve, so they just go on to say they can’t settle this and walk away from their responsibility to the country.

  • While not perfect, Gingrich is the most qualified

Newt Gingrich is by no means the perfect presidential candidate, having made mistakes in both his political and personal life. But he’s straightforward enough to admit it, going so far as to say he was wrong and just plain stupid in some cases, and trying to explain his position in others.
Out of all the candidates, he is by far the most qualified person to be our next president.

  • Hewett letter: Christmas is not in the Scripture

I thank The Lancaster News for sharing the Scripture (Luke 2:1-20) in the Dec. 25 edition.
There should be one small correction, please.
“Christmas” is not in Scripture, but an invention of the Roman Catholic Church, as the actual birth date of the Messiah is not in Scripture.
The word “Christmas” is a combination of the words “Christ” and “Mass.”
The word “Mass” means death and was coined originally by the Roman Catholic Church.

  • Christmas parade caused chaos for residents

Who in the world had the bright idea of lining the Christmas parade up in a residential area, to be more specific – French and Catawba streets? I’m even more appalled that our city officials allowed this.
If a resident had an emergency, when minutes really matter, the clock would have just kept on ticking. If there had been a fire at someone’s home, it probably would have burned down. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. It started at 4 p.m. and didn’t clear until after 8 p.m.

  • Jaylen’s grandmother angry about verdict

It has been almost two months and I still can’t believe the verdict Marico Stevens received in the death of my grandbaby, Jaylen Jackson. Stevens was arrested May 6, 2010, in the shooting death of Jaylen.
Anthony Carter, who was also charged in Jaylen’s death, was found guilty.
Yes, I’m mad at the state and jurors. But there is a higher power than them. Jaylen wasn’t but 3 years old. We’ve not had her to celebrate her birthday and Christmas for two years. Yet, a person charged in her death is walking the streets free.

  • Writer grateful for honest person

I just want to thank my Christmas angel who found my mother’s money in Walmart’s parking lot and turned it in.
You have earned a gold star in heaven.
