  • Study is waste of taxpayer money

    This is in response to a recent article about the Friends of Indian Land (FOIL) published in The Lancaster News. According to one of the Lancaster County Council members, FOIL members do really good research. It seems to me that they didn’t do any research on the housing development that they chose to live in. If they had, they would have known that it is built next door to an industrial park.
    I think it is a waste of taxpayer money for the county to spend on some dumb study just to please these people.

  • County, state should have enough money to fix our roads

    I am sure most everyone is aware of how bad our roads are. They are getting in worse shape, especially on Potter Road, Camp Creek Road and S.C. 200 from the end of the four-lane section almost to the Catawba River bridge. I would think the state has enough money given the extra road tax in the county and the money generated from the state sales tax.

  • Horton has opened my eyes to landfill issue

    Garbage has to be dumped somewhere, but not in my backyard, well at least not North Carolina’s. It is so easy to slumber through issues that seemingly don’t affect us. Hang on! This guy named Gary Horton opened my eyes with his article in Friday’s paper.
    My neighborhood on Charlotte Road is busy as a bee. So much so that I have long delays pulling out of my driveway. Now, our county administration is mulling over the merits of some new funds in the treasury versus about 176 dump trucks hauling garbage right down in front of my home.

  • Let officials, unemployed change roles for one week

    Everywhere you look prices are rising – from gas to food, clothing and taxes. The only thing not increasing is jobs. How can people live with everything rising except their pay? There’s nothing being done to put folks back to work. But there’s a lot of focus on price hikes. For those of us who don’t have jobs, we can’t afford to live.

  • Writer praises the Hornes

    I am writing this letter about one of the nicest people I have ever met. It is Sam Horne’s son, Robby Horne, who owns Springdale Pawn and Jewelry. Robby has a heart of gold, just like his dad and grandfather, Bear Horne.
    I would just like to let him know I love him and I thank him for all he has done for me.
    God has put no better men on this earth than Bear, Sam and Robby.

    As a graduate of the Barr Street High School Class of 1969, I am proud to see the position The Lancaster News has taken in regards to Black History Month (formerly Black History Week.)

    There was a time when America flourished, wealth beyond belief, it was the superpower of all nations. Our own government stated that there was so much money in Social Security, that it didn’t know what it was going to do with it.
    The economy was booming.
    But during the late 1960s, something went horribly wrong. The “Free Love” movement began and the morals of that generation plummeted.

  • No need to reveal deputies' name

    A recent story appeared on the front page, above the fold, of The Lancaster News, re-telling the story of a man being shot at the car wash on Lynwood Drive, but this time you added the names of the two deputies that had answered the 911 call. 

    Now was that necessary? A deputy sheriff is part of a team acting under the orders of the sheriff and other state laws in effect. The action taken by these two deputies certainly appeared to be within their area of responsibility.
