Indian Land’s participation in the Great American Cleanup kicks off on Saturday, as the Indian Land Community Clean-up Week begins. Volunteers will be throughout the Indian Land community during the week of April 2-9 picking up litter discarded on our local roads. Please slow down and drive carefully when you see volunteers.

I feel I must respond to Congressman Mick Mulvaney’s column, “Mulvaney explains what  government shutdown means,” published in the March 11 edition of The Lancaster News.
That same column appeared in several others papers across the area.
I do find it odd that Mulvaney’s opinions seem to be aired regularly in some papers, but not in my local Rock Hill Herald.
I would like to address some of the congressman’s opinions about why the federal government is spending too much money.

I would like to congratulate several people at A.R. Rucker Middle School. First is Adam Bailey who was the Spelling Bee champ.
I congratulate Principal Phil Mickles, his staff and all the parents who stand behind their children when the going gets tough. They support their children all the way through.
My neighbor’s daughter was chosen for The Emerging Young Leaders for academics program that extends achievement through leadership, education, civic engagement and character. She is also a student at A.R. Rucker.

I felt such compassion for the Landires after reading “Dog bite saga leaves Indian Land family upset” in the Feb. 11 edition. I’m fed up with the constant stories of these horrible dog attacks.
It sounds like the dangerous-dog ordinance is like so many other antiquated local laws that were created for times when Indian Land and Lancaster County were sparsely populated and very rural.  
With a heavy increase in population, the rules of any community need to be adjusted to protect the safety and peaceful existence of all.
