As per the “Notice of Charrette” in last week’s paper, no, the USS Charrett, a Navy destroyer launched in 1943, isn’t coming; and we are not getting a charrette in front of the horse as usual. Charrette, an American design supply retailer headquartered in the Boston area, is not locating next to Walmart. 

The Fort Lawn Community Center would like to thank the following individuals for their time and many efforts benefiting our fourth annual Spring Festival held April 16.
Even though the threat of severe weather hampered the number of visitors, we still consider the event a huge success and the total amount of income earned from the festival was $9,570.75.

I am writing in reference to the letters about the lack of historical pictures in the new Pleasant Valley Fire Department station. I am sorry people have hard feelings about this.  
We could not locate a picture of Mr. Crawford, who was a fire chief years ago. The only picture we received was with a group of people and we couldn’t use it.  
Jerry Kessiah was also a Pleasant Valley fire chief years ago. He had two daughters that we don’t know whom they married, so we don’t have a last name for either.

I was shocked today (May 8) when I attended the worship service at my church, First United Methodist Church, 200 W. Gay St., Lancaster. As is the custom of our church, weekly worship services are held at 11 a.m. each Sunday. God had blessed this Mother’s Day with a beautiful, sunny day.
As our services began, a pressure wash motor was started across the street, directly in front of the church. When I opened the front doors and looked out, there sat a truck backed up to the Arts Council building. The workman began to clean the building.
