Many dogs and cats go through the Lancaster County Animal Shelter and sadly not many can be saved. Mostly that is due to low adoption rates and also to the fact that the Humane Society of Lancaster has so few foster homes, and no building of its own. Pets that are adoptable don’t get a chance because there is no place where we can house them while waiting for that perfect forever home.
Whenever possible we will pull a pet from the shelter, get them fully vetted and place in a foster home to be socialized and loved.

We would like to thank everyone who came out and donated to the Healing Horses fundraiser on Feb. 16 at Tractor Supply.
Healing Horses is an organization that rescues and rehabilitates horses that are victims of trauma or abuse. The event was sponsored by Tractor Supply and Gypsysrun Farm & Stables of Lancaster.
Tractor Supply donated a $25 gift card and Gerald Baskins donated a cedar birdhouse. We would like to thank them both for helping us with this cause. We raised $100 to help feed and take care of the horses in need.

My wife, Rosa White Johnson, and I, Sammie Surrell Johnson, moved from Lancaster in 1966 to Summerville, near Charleston.
We both retired from Charleston Air Force Base, but Lancaster will always be home for us. We both grew up in Lancaster, married and two of our three children were born in Lancaster.
As her mother grew older and her quality of life deteriorated, my wife, being an only child, tried to come up at least twice monthly to make sure that her needs were being met. Other days, she called her on the phone.

Looks like folks in Washington are bound and determined to disband our postal service. It’s been working for more than 200 years in wars and all kinds of weather. Why, our politicians spend more money “investigating” than they do in “fixin’” stuff.
There is talk about the pension for postal employees, which cannot be changed because of Congress. I guess it’s goodbye to home delivery of mail if we wait for Congress to fix the problem.
