    If the radical, religious right refers to the U.S. Constitution to defend their right to bear arms, any type, any quantity, why don’t they have the same belief in the Constitution when it refers to the separation of church and state?

    I would like to thank sports editor Robert Howey for the great article he wrote on my grandson, Taylor  Banks, for winning the Club Championship at the Lancaster Golf Club recently. I was blessed to be able to be there and watch him play and it was nice to come back and see all my old friends in Lancaster.

  • Obama, Congress needs tough-love approach

    With a couple of trillion dollars of income each year to spend – and it does plus more – it is easy to forget that our GovCo does not create wealth by spending this money.
    For those who did not take economics, here is a fact, whatever the government spends it must first take from someone by some means.
    The brilliant economists Jay Carney, speaking for President Barack Obama, just the other day said that unemployment checks were  good for the country because they create wealth.

  • Come show your support for veterans at parade

    The theme for this year’s Veterans Day parade and program is “Honoring Veterans Past and Present.” This year’s parade is Nov. 5.
    Lineup is at  9 a.m. and the parade will begin at 10 a.m. The route will be down Main Street to the American Legion Building, where the program will take place.
    Those attending the program can use the Market Street entrance to the fairgrounds for parking. The program is always a special event as we honor all veterans.

    Cauthen touched the lives of so many people

    I did something Aug. 19 that I have never done before. I attended a funeral, only I was on the outside looking in. Usually when I go to a funeral, I go inside the church; but that day was different. 

    I, like many others, parked our cars in store lots and on the side of the road to pay homage to a fallen hero as he was brought to St. Luke United Methodist Church for the last time.

    Many years ago, a friend told a story of growing up so poor, his parents served shadow ham on a regular basis. What is shadow ham? This is when cured country ham was hung up where you could smell it for days or weeks before cooking and eating it. The aroma is shadow ham.

    President Barack Obama and Capitol Hill Democrats seem to be practicing shadow jobs.

    Touching words too late for 3-year-old

    I read Betty Ann Stevens’ letter, “Young need to put down guns, parents need to speak up,” in the July 29 edition of The Lancaster News. 

    There were some touching words in the letter. But those words were too late for my 3-year-old granddaughter, Jaylen Jackson. She lost her life to the negligence of others when she was shot and killed when she got caught in a crossfire.

  • Please keep bus stops clear so our children can be seen

    It’s that time of year again, folks. School has started and buses are rolling about 6:15 a.m. each day. If you have children who will be waiting at bus stops, please cut the grass and clear the area around the bus stops so passers by can see your child in the wee hours of the morning.
    Lancaster County appears to be so broke that many roads are now overgrown, limiting the ability to see. We truly do not want to have any harm come to our children. So, please folks, cut, cut, cut that grass.
    Our students, parents and drivers would greatly appreciate it.

  • We should be proud of Murphy’s response

    So often media reporters have a tendency to place undue blame or financial hardship on individuals or companies in their quest for hard-hitting news.
    Chris Sardelli’s article, “Cars damaged in gas mix-up at Murphy’s,” in the Aug. 10 edition of The Lancaster News, clearly outlined the costly mistake made that resulted in many vehicle owners becoming distraut.

  • The left labels TEA Party as terrorists

    Here we go again. Now that the left has failed to codify the Taxed Enough Already (TEA) Party as racists, they have turned to using the term of “terrorists.” The media, Democratic congressmen, and even the vice president have used the words “terrorists,” “jihadists” and “terrorist bombers” to erroneously vilify the TEA Party.
    This is the ultimate in hypocrisy for when the Islamists actually attacked us on 9/11 and the many attempts after, the left couldn’t bring their tiny minds to call them terrorists.
