  • Letter: Resident likes Indian Land just the way it is

Hopefully, Indian Land does not get built up any more. We residents like it here just as it is. This is why we moved here, because Indian Land was not built up.
These commercial companies need to leave us alone. We don’t need any more stores because it is a short drive to get to them all.
We like the country setting and these commercial companies are destroying the land with all their building.
What about the traffic situation, which is already bad?

  • Letter: Praise for sheriff after cocaine bust

The Sept. 30 front-page headline “Huge cocaine raid at IL business” tells us why Barry Faile should stay as our sheriff.
Thank you to him, Maj. Matt Shaw, Doug Barfield and all the men and women working with the Lancaster County Drug Task Force and the York County Multiagency Drug Task Force. They’ve protected so many young and old people whose lives would have been destroyed by all those drugs.
We elected the best. If it ain’t broke, why try to fix it?

  • Letter: Holt/Trump debate showed media bias

Lester Holt’s moderating of the first presidential debate was a partisan disgrace. It was more of a Holt/Trump debate than a Clinton/Trump debate, as Mr. Holt challenged Trump maybe a dozen times and Clinton none.
We have corruption at the highest levels of the media and both political parties.

  • Letter: Why won’t county close dusty road?

I stay on R.F. Banks Lane in Kershaw. I have COPD. I have asbestos in my lungs, and I have a hard time breathing.
Last week, the county scraped the road beside my house. When they got through, they put the good gravel up at the end, and they put the dusty gravel by my house.
I have tried to get the county to quit working on the road. Every time that I ask Steve Willis, all he does is tell me a lie saying that he doesn’t have the authority to close it.

  • Letter: Mulvaney stepped in to resolve a problem

While many are losing faith in government, I was pleasantly surprised by my U.S. congressman, Mick Mulvaney.
My family and I recently relocated to Rock Hill from Indianapolis. Shortly after arriving, my wife started a new job.
Her employer, as required, verified her Social Security number, but they were notified by the Social Security Administration that there was a problem.

  • Letter: Faile has served our county well

We are very fortunate in our county to have Sheriff Barry Faile.
When Sheriff Faile was first elected, one of his early priorities was to attain state accreditation for the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office. When a department or agency is accredited by the State of South Carolina, it means the agency is among the elite agencies in our state, following a rigorous examination of services and administrative functions.

  • Letter: Riots must end, races must unite

This is about the riots in Charlotte.
I don’t know enough about the case to comment. Most of the protesters are OK, but a lot of them are using this tragic event as a means to loot and destroy and steal. This is wrong.
My heart goes out to the families of the two who got killed. May God be with them, and also the police and protesters.
We as white and black must live in unity. Only God can stop what is going on.
This is to all people. Come together, and may God bless the people of Charlotte and Lancaster and everywhere else.

  • Letter: Non-politician is what we need

Thanks, Mr. Aves. Your research on former presidents is just what we need. The fact that most past presidents were professional politicians and most never held a real job is all the more reason we need a businessman with common sense to lead us now.
Our country is in deep debt beyond any reason, and most of the rest of the world hates us. It’s time to get away from the
Washington elite and the PC bunch and place some real leadership in place.
My vote will go to Mr. Trump.

  • Letter: Mulvaney doesn’t need anyone’s help

Mick Mulvaney does not need a boost from Sen. Tim Scott.
Sen. Scott was in Indian Land to celebrate the congressman’s term in office. We are so blessed to have both of these men representing us in Washington.
The news article made it seem like there is a cause for alarm in this race.  Are you kidding? The most qualified person for the job is already doing it.

  • Letter: Senseless horror of animal cruelty

My letter is in reference to the article in the Sept. 23 issue written by Reece Murphy and titled “Stray cat tortured, 2 players charged.”
First, I want to thank the concerned people who alerted the police about this horrific act. Then, praise to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office for their decisive response. Finally, kudos to Reece Murphy. It must have been as hard to write this article as it was to read it.
