  • Letter: We need safeguards of 2nd Amendment

I’d like to reply to two points in William St. Louis’s column in the Oct. 5 paper headlined “My take on guns, God and Trump.”
First, Mr. St. Louis doesn’t know why we have a Second Amendment. There can never be too many weapons in a citizen’s possession. It’s our right. We have them to keep our government from becoming a dictatorship.

  • Letter: Trump’s campaign conduct repels me

I am disgusted with how Donald Trump is conducting his campaign.
I have watched him encourage people in the audience to physically attack protesters. I have watched him shake his hands, his body and make facial gestures to make fun of a disabled person. And when I saw women on stage wearing shirts asking Trump to touch private parts of their body, I was sick to my stomach.
And yet we have a Lancaster pastor claiming that as disgusted as he is with both Trump and Hillary Clinton, he will vote for Trump because he doesn’t want Clinton to be elected.

  • Letter: GOP is gutless on Trump tape

Usually I write about how the left is corrupt or how their programs destroy America. Surprise! This is about my loathing for the Republican Party.
Ever since the tape of Trump talking about women appeared, the party without a backbone has started to withdraw support from him.
House Speaker Paul Ryan and other members of Congress have come out on their high horses. Oh, they are shocked at such language! Why, how Neanderthal he is! He’s degrading women! We, as a party of saints, must ostracize him from our ranks.

  • Letter: Sheriff Faile is a proven leader

Ric Flair’s famous saying was, “You got to be the man to beat the man!”
Sheriff Barry Faile has proven he is the man, a proven leader. Vote Barry Faile.

  • Letter: Faile is accessible, out in community

In regards to the upcoming election and who will serve this county as sheriff, my vote will go to Barry Faile.
I have found him to be accessible to the point of returning phone calls, and he also attends countywide functions in varying community service orientated roles.
I know nothing about the person running against him except he is from Indian Land, and that right there leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Let’s not give in to Indian Land residents this time. How about joining me in voting for Barry.

  • Letter: Thanks for help on child IDs

The Lancaster Moose Lodge would like to thank The Lancaster News, The Women of the Moose and Fred and Cheryl Williams for their support in our Child ID Program.
Also, special thanks to Maj. Bill Murphy of the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office for his expertise in helping us fine-tune our program.
Due to the inclement weather from Hurricane Matthew, not all persons were able to participate. We are hoping to have another child ID session early next spring.

  • Letter: Resident likes Indian Land just the way it is

Hopefully, Indian Land does not get built up any more. We residents like it here just as it is. This is why we moved here, because Indian Land was not built up.
These commercial companies need to leave us alone. We don’t need any more stores because it is a short drive to get to them all.
We like the country setting and these commercial companies are destroying the land with all their building.
What about the traffic situation, which is already bad?

  • Letter: Praise for sheriff after cocaine bust

The Sept. 30 front-page headline “Huge cocaine raid at IL business” tells us why Barry Faile should stay as our sheriff.
Thank you to him, Maj. Matt Shaw, Doug Barfield and all the men and women working with the Lancaster County Drug Task Force and the York County Multiagency Drug Task Force. They’ve protected so many young and old people whose lives would have been destroyed by all those drugs.
We elected the best. If it ain’t broke, why try to fix it?

  • Letter: Holt/Trump debate showed media bias

Lester Holt’s moderating of the first presidential debate was a partisan disgrace. It was more of a Holt/Trump debate than a Clinton/Trump debate, as Mr. Holt challenged Trump maybe a dozen times and Clinton none.
We have corruption at the highest levels of the media and both political parties.

  • Letter: Why won’t county close dusty road?

I stay on R.F. Banks Lane in Kershaw. I have COPD. I have asbestos in my lungs, and I have a hard time breathing.
Last week, the county scraped the road beside my house. When they got through, they put the good gravel up at the end, and they put the dusty gravel by my house.
I have tried to get the county to quit working on the road. Every time that I ask Steve Willis, all he does is tell me a lie saying that he doesn’t have the authority to close it.
