  • Letter: Recycled news rack helps feed homeless

I would like to thank The Lancaster News again for the newspaper boxes that were donated to Faith, Hope & Victory Christian Church a couple of years ago and to show you what we’ve done with them.
With the help of Mr. Russell Freeman, the local business owner of Auto Exteriors, the boxes were refurbished and painted. Two were donated to other local organizations (HOPE of Lancaster and Greater New Hope Soup Kitchen), and our church used one to complete The Can Stand project.

  • Letter: Agree to disagree on President Trump

I am writing in response to Nicholas Pasquine’s Jan. 7 letter headlined “We elected Trump to reverse course.”
Yes, Mr. Pasquine, you did elect President Trump, and I hope you see what you have put in office.
The homeless are out on the street, not being able to get help. I worked for the Census Bureau over 20 years, and the homeless were counted. President Obama made a way where they were able to receive health care. Access is all they need, but Trump is getting rid of that access.

  • Letter: Good policy to cut off Pakistan

I read today in the New York Times that Washington will now withhold $1.5 billion in annual aid to Pakistan since they continue to aid terrorist groups. This should have been stopped ages ago.
I would like to say that I am soon to turn 80 years old and on Jan. 1, 2018, I received my first Social Security cost-of-living increase in three years. It amounts to $20 per month. My wife, age 77, got nothing. The increase in Medicare costs to $183 per month for 2018 canceled out her Social Security gain.

  • Letter: S.C. ratepayers the only priority

Your Jan. 5 article “Virginia utility to pay $14B for SCANA Corp.” points out that the acquisition of SCANA by Dominion Energy will result in an average refund of $1,000 and a 5 percent rate reduction for SCE&G customers.
While this deal marks a step in the right direction, I believe the question we should ask for any proposed solution to the nuclear debacle should be: “Is this the best deal for all of our hardworking families across South Carolina?” Period.

  • Letter: Dems don’t help the middle class

It’s like talking to a wall when you try to enlighten the left.
A person wrote in and said the tax cuts were a “lump of coal.” You’re keeping more of your money (since you worked for it), getting a raise in the child tax credit from $1,000 to $1,600, and businesses are getting a cut to boost the economy. How is that a lump of coal?

  • Letter: We elected Trump to reverse course

This is a response to Christine Taylor’s Dec. 22 letter criticizing President Trump and defending Barack Obama.
Does she not know that we elected Trump to get rid of Obama’s failed policies? His health-care plan was a rip off from the start. The health industry has seen profits more than double, at our expense.
The homeless and poor she speaks of are not covered under the Affordable Care Act. They are in Medicaid. I agree with her that we need to help those truly in need.

  • Letter: Tie on red vest, help Red Cross

Often during the holidays, one stops and looks back over the past year. For me, it’s about reflecting on what it truly means to be there for others in need.
Seeing how much people throughout the country went through this year and seeing how the American Red Cross was there, time and time again, makes me proud to say that I support our local Red Cross.
The torrential floods in 2015 soaked us. In 2016, it was Hurricane Matthew’s turn. This year, Irma stormed in. Every time, the American Red Cross was there.

  • Letter: President lied about tax bill

Thank you, Mr. Trump, for again lying about how great the tax bill would be for the middle class.
You and Mr. Ryan gave the middle class a lump of coal as a Christmas present.
We need to drain the president from the Washington swamp.

  • Letter: Paying water bill way too difficult

This letter concerns the Lancaster County Water and Sewer District offices. My bill is due the 15th of each month. Not the 14th, not the 13th. The 15th.
This is mentioned because one month the 15th was on a Sunday, and when I attempted to pay my bill Monday I was told there would be a late charge because I was late and that it should have been paid the 13th (the day they were open).

  • Letter: Praying for peace this Christmas

I am writing because I am praying that this Christmas there will be peace in the world in God’s time.
I think about all the hatred, which I believe is being fueled by President Trump. Some say he knows he is doing this, while others say he doesn’t realize it. Let’s get real people – he knows. But only God can change a hardened heart. I believe this is what’s wrong with him.
