This is a letter to address the deception being perpetrated by the proponents of Sunday alcohol sales in Lancaster County. It has been stated in previous articles that there is no organized opposition to the referendum.
That is not true. The 5:18 Movement has been working with local churches to mount opposition to the sales of alcohol on the Lord’s Day. Our name comes from Ephesians 5:18, which says, “Be not drunk with wine....but be filled with the Spirit.”

Nov. 6 is right around the corner and I want to encourage everyone to get out and exercise their right to vote as there are some very important decisions that must be made.
For Lancaster County residents, the office of sheriff in Lancaster County is on the ballot. I have never really become involved in a sheriff’s campaign, but find it necessary now to preserve the professionalism that has become the sheriff’s office over the last four years.

In 2008, the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils (NAEPC) worked with Congress to pass a resolution proclaiming the third week in October as National Estate Planning Awareness Week.
The resolution noted that “Many Americans are unaware that lack of estate planning and financial illiteracy may cause their assets to be disposed of to unintended parties by default through the complex process of probate.”

There was a twist of irony to the weekend following the death of Sam Thomas.
Sam, who died late Thursday afternoon at Springs Memorial Hospital, would have had quite a time Saturday and Sunday.
An avid sports fan, Sam likely would have been glued to the television following South Carolina’s solid 35-7 win over SEC rival Georgia in what many hailed as the biggest game in USC football history.
