National Newspaper Week, Oct. 2-8, is a time to celebrate the unique role newspapers play in our society and dispel the myth that they are going away.
It may be difficult for some to see through the fog of recession and digital disruption, but if you look closely you’ll see that newspapers remain quite healthy.
Despite the doomsayers, newspapers are actually growing readership as we find new ways to reach consumers.

On Sept. 8, President Barack Obama unveiled yet another stimulus plan, this one called the American Jobs Act. Like the Stimulus Act of 2009, his new $450 billion proposal seems more designed to satisfy the spending urges of the White House than to create jobs and real economic growth.

Thank you, Indian Land residents, for your outpouring of support in our effort to have Thomas Concrete held to the letter of the law in Lancaster County. Your efforts forced their lawyers to alter their strategy and postpone the appeal date of Sept. 15 to Oct. 11 or possibly a circuit court hearing. Lancaster County owes an apology to those who did not get the change of date notice in advance of their trip to Lancaster.

I am so appreciative of The Lancaster News for listing all of the programs provided by various organizations within our community as tools of learning for our children. Because my focus was primarily on my own summer program during the last seven years, I was not aware of the vast resources available, free of charge, to our youth.
