Jon Butzon is a big guy and he has some big ideas about how we can fix education in South Carolina. He should know because for years he’s run the Charleston Education Network – he’s seen it, lived it and thought about it. He knows where we are as a state; he knows what works and, most importantly, what doesn’t work.

Did you know that taxpayers are helping to fund a nonprofit business enterprise whose attorneys lobby the Statehouse while this business directs and dictates public policies to South Carolina’s county councils? This practice creates a conflict because taxpayer funds are being spent to lobby for an agenda that taxpayers cannot vote on and for policy positions that might not be supported by taxpayers. This business enterprise is the S.C. Association of Counties (SCAC).

Our government is run by immoral and dishonest figures who pursue policies and actions designed to ruin America. It’s a war waged on America, sadly, from the inside.
Sinister and destructive actions of America’s leadership, including the behavior of political parties, but especially the radical left, the mainstream media, the White House and President Barack Obama are leading to our demise.

There are few things that bring me more pleasure as chairman of the S.C. Republican Party than praising our state’s elected officials for focusing on truly meaningful reforms. Recently, members of our state Senate did just that.
For more than a decade, school choice has been a big part of the national dialogue on education reform. In fact, 22 other states currently have school choice programs. That number is growing year after year.
