    Long before Jesus’ birth, the prophet Isaiah wrote a prophecy about the “suffering servant of Jehovah,” found in Isaiah 52:13-53:12.  
    Eight passages in the New Testament declare that this passage describes the Lord Jesus Christ, including the words of Jesus himself, when he said, “This that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.” (Luke 22:37)

  • Walker column: Happy Mother’s Day to all my moms

    I was blessed to have not only my own mother, Juanita B. Walker, but four surrogate mothers. Three of them are deceased, but I want their families to know how much I loved them and how much I appreciate them sharing their loved ones with me.
    I would first like to thank the Lancaster News for including my mother in the Black History Trivia Contest in February. She was truly a trailblazer in this community and local, state and national politics, but she never won any awards for that.

  • Rocky Creek Bridge to close Monday

    CHESTER – Beginning Monday, May 11, motorists who use S.C. 97 (Great Falls Road) will need to find an alternate route.

    S.C. Department of Transportation Resident Construction Engineer Jeremiah Bradley said construction on the Rocky Creek Bridge will begin Monday. Many Lancaster residents use that route to access I-77.

    Construction was scheduled to begin last November, but the project has been hampered by several delays. SCDOT hoped to start construction in mid-January, but that was also postponed due to environmental permitting issues.

    The streets were filled with dozens of residents and local fire, emergency and police officials ready to “Take Back the Night” at a celebration Thursday, May 7 at Palmetto Place, the former Pardue Street Apartments complex.

    A Lancaster native used his four deployments to Iraq to hit the weight room and build his body into a lean mean muscle machine, literally “Army strong.” 

    During his deployments, retired Staff Sgt. Maceo Thompson developed a love for weight training.
