  • Helms named DuPont ambassador

     From staff reports

    Buford High School's Troy Helms was named a DuPont agriscience ambassador after completing a professional development course offered by the company at its Chesapeake Farms in Chestertown, Md. 

    Helms, the school's FAA teacher, earned the honor by completing the DuPont National AgriScience Teachers Ambassador Academy (NATAA) on Dec. 1.

  • Kershaw man honored by Masons

    KERSHAW – On Nov. 24, one of Lancaster County’s finest citizens, Howard W. “Walker” Crawford was honored at Flat Rock Masonic Lodge No. 178 during the monthly Square and Compass Meeting. Crawford was presented the 2014 Glenn Watts Lamp of the Masonic Light, in honor of Watts, another of Lancaster’s finest citizens.

  • County quartet set for North-South All-Star contest Saturday

     

    The 67th annual North-South All-Star game will feature a Lancaster County ace quartet.

    The group includes three star senior players along with Andrew Jackson High School head football coach David Moore.

  • Hanging Rock Kartway resets race Saturday

     

    Following a rainout on Saturday, Dec. 6, Hanging Rock Kartway roars back into action this Saturday night, Dec. 13.

    Hanging Rock Kartway, located in Kershaw at 1082 Horton Rollins Road, will be hosting the King of The Rock/FH Mania.

  • Buford nets second mat win over LHS

     

    The Buford Yellow Jackets completed a mat sweep of Class AAA county rival Lancaster with a 46-36 wrestling win over the Bruins on Tuesday, Dec. 9 in the BHS gym.

    Buford, 2-0, opened its season with a 51-30 victory over the Bruins in the LHS gym on Dec. 4.

  • Lady Bruins down Camden, stay unbeaten

     

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins finished strong to stay unbeaten on the 2014-15 prep basketball campaign with a 55-35 win over Camden at CHS on Tuesday, Dec. 8.

    The Lady Bruins’ 20-point win gave LHS a split after the LHS boys dropped an 82-78 loss to the Bulldogs.

  • Bruins honor fall stars

     

    A fall full of athletic rises was celebrated at the annual Lancaster High School fall sports awards on Wednesday, Dec. 10 in the LHS auditorium.

    Six playoff teams, including region championships for swimming and volleyball, highlighted the awards.

  • Man charged in three armed robberies

    A Lancaster man is now in jail facing three counts of armed robbery in connection with three incidents in the past week.
    Alexis Rodriguez, 30, of Country Club Road, is charged with three counts of armed robbery and other charges after deputies recovered evidence tying him to the crimes, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office press release.
    The first incident was about 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at North Corner Discount Beverage, 3647 Charlotte Highway.
    Store employees told deputies what happened.

  • Catch Christmas spirit in Van Wyck

    The Christmas spirit will be contagious at two Van Wyck events this weekend.
    Grand marshal Clarence Witherspoon will lead the annual Christmas parade at noon Saturday, Dec. 13, and a candle-lighting worship event will take participants through four churches at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14.
    The Van Wyck Community Development Club hosts the two events during the second weekend in December, appealing to those who enjoy holiday tradition and the charm of a small community.
