  • Warriors rally for split against PHS Rebels

    MONROE – The Indian Land Warriors bounced back from a lopsided road loss in their last outing at Chester High School to post a 74-68 comeback win over Parkwood of Union County, N.C., on Wednesday night.

    The Warriors’ six-point win gave ILHS a split with the Rebels.

    The PHS girls opened the twin bill with a 65-10 win over the Lady Warriors, winless on the season at 0-11.

  • Jackets wrestlers rip foes

    The Buford Yellow Jackets wrestling team, ranked sixth in the latest Class A-AA state mat poll, rolled to a pair of home wins Tuesday night.

    The BHS grapplers, 10-5, thumped Union Academy of Monroe, N.C., 60-3 and pounded Parkwood of Union County, N.C., 54-24.

    The Jackets were led by Blake Bailey (138) and heavyweight Tucker Sellers who each notched two pins in the two Buford High wins.

    Bailey, a sophomore standout grappler, is No. 1 in his weight class, 138, according to SCMAT, the South Carolina prep wrestling website.

  • Blazers blitz Bruins twice

    Ridge View proved too tough of a hoops mountain for Lancaster to climb in Region III-AAAA play Tuesday night in the Blazers’ gym.

    RVHS took two from the Bruins, who dropped a pair of double-digit losses.

    The Lady Blazers rolled to a 67-46 win and the Ridge View boys posted a 74-56 victory over the Bruins.

    In the opener, a two-point third quarter foiled the Lady Bruins hopes of extending their seven-game win streak.

    The Lady Blazers forged a 20-13 lead after a quarter and took a 43-29 edge at the break.

  • Lady Jackets finish strong for NC split

    BOONETOWN – Buford High basketball had a mixed bag at the hoop Tuesday night.

    The Jackets teams split in Region IV-AA play, with the girls winning a close game and the BHS boys dropping a tough 60-57 loss at North Central High School.

    The Lady Jackets charged late to net the 52-44 comeback win over the Lady Knights to open the region doubleheader.

    North Central held the lead for the majority of the close contest, but BHS stepped up late.

  • Vols roll in sweep of Rams

    KERSHAW – The Andrew Jackson Volunteers took both wins against the Chesterfield High School Rams on Tuesday night at Andrew Jackson High.

    The AJ boys scored a 68-45 win, and the Lady Vols took the 22-point victory, 71-49 over the Lady Rams.

    The Volunteers trailed by three at the end of the first quarter, and rebounded to a one point lead at the half 28-27.

  • Daley leads ILHS to fourth-place finish in Rock Hill mat tournament

    Indian Land, ranked second in Class AAA, continued its stellar wrestling season with a fourth-place finish in the prestigious Bearcat Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Rock Hill High School.

    The Warriors, the highest finishing Class AAA team in the 32-team field, were led by Kyle Daley, 27-4, who won the 152-pound class with a pin. Daley was 4-0 on the day.

    Austin Ross, 28-3, was the runner-up at 113, going 3-1. Xavier Dreese, in the 138-pound weight class, was the runner-up. Dreese, 3-1 on the day, is 25-6 on the season.

  • Buford’s Snuffer signs with CIU

    BUFORD – Buford High School girls cross country and track star Christine Snuffer is moving on, heading to the next level at Columbia International University.

    Snuffer, a standout in her sports and academics, made her choice official Friday afternoon, signing with the Rams in the BHS media center.

  • Indian Land Warriors drop two at Chester

    Indian Land High School’s Region IV-AAA opener was a bummer.

    The Warriors, launching region play at Chester, dropped both games Friday night.

    The Lady Cyclones snapped a long losing skid, taking a 52-35 win over the Lady Warriors to open the twin bill.

    In the nightcap, Chester routed the Warriors in a 109-69 win.

    Indian Land’s girls, 0-10, fell behind early, but stayed within range before the Lady Cycs took the 17-point win.

    Chester, 1-13, was up 13-10 after one period and took a 28-20 lead at the half.

  • Lady Bruins rally for win at York opener

    The Lancaster Lady Bruins started slow, but picked up the pace to take a 40-37  comeback win for a split in their Region III-AAAA opener at York on Friday night.

    The Bruins, in the nightcap, dropped a 76-55 loss to the Cougars.

    Matters didn’t look good for the LHS girls, down 24-14 at the half.

    The 7-2 Lady Bruins, who have won seven straight, began to rally in the third period, with an 11-5 surge to slice the gap, 29-25.

  • Yellow Jackets take two from Rams

    BUFORD – It was a swarm sweep for the host Buford Yellow Jackets on Saturday night.

    The Jackets, in their first home hoops game of 2018, stung the Chesterfield Rams for a pair of Region IV-AA wins.

    The game was originally set for Friday, but moved to Saturday because Chesterfield was out of school Friday due to a late week winter storm.

    The Buford Lady Jackets launched the sweep, taking a 55-40 win over the Lady Rams.

    The nightcap was closer, with the Jackets taking a 60-54 win over CHS.
