    The Indian Land Fire Protection District Commission will meet at 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Indian Land Volunteer Fire Department, 185 Six Mile Creek Road.

  • Small-business optimism soars

    COLUMBIA – Not since the roaring Reagan economy has small-business optimism been as high as it was in November, and S.C. business owners share that sentiment, the National Federation of Independent Business said Tuesday.

    “We haven’t seen this kind of optimism in 34 years, and we’ve seen it only once in the 44 years that NFIB has been conducting this research,” said NFIB President Juanita Duggan, releasing the group’s Index of Small Business Optimism. 

  • Clemson launches center for manufacturing research

    CLEMSON – Clemson University this month announced the creation of its Center for Advanced Manufacturing, the centerpiece of the university’s commitment to education, research, innovation and workforce development in an industry sector crucial to South Carolina’s future.

    From 2011-16, manufacturing job growth in South Carolina increased 16 percent, and manufacturing now accounts for 11 percent of the state’s total employment.

  • McMurray coached himself to S.C. Football Hall of Fame

    MYRTLE BEACH – Coach Bennie McMurray won 219 football games and three state championships as a 27-year high coach head football coach, but his best coaching job was internal.

    McMurray, one of eight inductees into the S.C. Football Coaches Hall of Fame in Myrtle Beach on Friday night at the Landmark Inn, provided insight on his hall of fame journey.

  • Heintz Bros Performance set for LMS return in 2018 season

    During the 2017 Lancaster Motor Speedway season racing fans and drivers noticed that at every race there was no parts trailer in the LMS pits for the drivers to buy some much-needed parts on race night.

    That will change during the 2018 racing season, as co-promoters Eric Caskey and Shannon Munn have been busy this off-season getting everything 100 percent right for the new racing season.

    Caskey has announced on the Lancaster Motor Speedway group page that Heintz Bros Performance will be returning to the big half-mile track for the 2018 racing season.

  • Jackets swarm to mat wins Monday

    The Buford Yellow Jackets were buzzing and winning on the mat Monday in a tri-match sweep with host Lancaster and Camden Military Academy.

    BHS took two at LHS, topping the Bruins, 55-18 and downing the CMA Spartans in a 67-12 victory.

    Lancaster, posting its first win on the season, salvaged a split with a 42-39 win over Camden Military to open the night.

    Buford posted its third win over Lancaster this season, rolling to 37-point win over the Bruins to cap action. BHS bolted to a 24-0 lead and cruised to the win.

  • Barnes, McKittrick savor North win

    MYRTLE BEACH – The North rose again and two Lancaster County football stars couldn’t have been happier Saturday afternoon.

    Lancaster High School’s Keavius Barnes and Dylan McKittrick of Andrew Jackson High School were beaming with victory smiles after the North All-Stars took a 24-12 win over the South in the 70th annual Touchtone Energy Bowl North-South All-Star football game at Doug Shaw Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon.

  • Warriors capture Kersey crown

    Indian Land High School earned some Warriors wrestling history, winning the seventh annual Mike Kersey Memorial Invitational on Saturday afternoon at ILHS.

    The Warriors captured their first Kersey tournament crown, topping the field with 219.5 points and five individual championships.

    “We wrestled well and I was proud of our effort,” ILHS coach Leon Boulware said. “It was an awesome showing by our team.”

    The Warriors’ tournament title gave ILHS its second tournament crown this season.
