  • Mayor completes S.C. municipal training

    COLUMBIA – Lancaster Mayor John Howard recently completed the advanced component of the S.C. Municipal Elected Officials Institute.

    In order to graduate, Howard completed seven required courses, including two daylong sessions in conjunction with the Municipal Association of South Carolina’s annual Hometown Legislative Action Day.

  • Jackets trip Vols, 6-4

    Buford snapped a two-game losing skid in Region IV-AA baseball play, taking a 6-4 home win over Andrew Jackson on Friday night.

    BHS used a three-run fourth inning to build a 6-2 lead before AJ scored single runs to make it close, but the Jackets held on for the win.

    Dylan Sistare’s bases-clearing double keyed the Jackets’ three-run rally in the fourth to give BHS the runs needed for the victory.

    Sistare had a double, three RBIs and scored a run.

  • Lady Vols down rival Buford, 4-2

    Andrew Jackson snapped a 2-all draw with two runs in the sixth inning to take a 4-2 win over rival Buford at BHS on Friday.

    Morgan Hendrix hurled the win, while BHS ace Sydney Sullivan took the loss.

    Hendrix sparked the Lady Vols with a two-run home run in the AJ sixth.

    Kinsley Adams and Cassidy McKittrick each added a hit for the Lady Vols.

    Morgan Deese, Hunter Allen and Tiffani Patterson each had a hit for the Lady Jackets.

  • Lancers drop 3 of 4 games

    The University of South Carolina capped a Region X road series, dropping two games to host Florence-Darlington Tech at the Stingers’ field on Sunday.

    Florence Darlington Tech prevailed 6-1, 11-4 to win three of four games in the weekend series.

    The Stingers capped the series with an 11-4 win Sunday afternoon.

  • Crenshaw Oil Golf Tourney set April 28

    The 26th annual Crenshaw Oil Company golf tournament is April 28 at the Lancaster Golf Club, with the early bird registration deadline April 3.

    All tournament proceeds benefit the Partners for Youth Scholarship Program.

  • Buford High ups soccer mark to 9-0

    The Buford High girls soccer team pushed their unbeaten mark to 9-0 with an 8-0 win over Forest Hills High School of Union County, N.C., on Thursday night.

    Buford’s Victoria Hinson led all scorers with three goals. Payton Howell tallied two goals.

    Isabella Jones, Kaylee Ghent and Emma Larson each had one.

    Buford senior keeper Tory Knight recorded her eighth shutout of the season.

  • Ray captures debut of Pure Stock V8 Division

    Lancaster Super Speedway drew a packed house in the grandstands and pits as drivers and fans came out in full force for the LSS 2017 opening night Saturday.

    Lancaster Super Speedway debuted a new division Saturday night with the Pure Stock V8. Heat race winners Jerry Knight and Cam Stegall brought the field to the green flag.

  • Weekend Recap: March 27, 2017

    Hometown hero Sindarius Thornwell led the USC Gamecocks to a 77-70 victory over Florida on Sunday in the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Championship Tournament. Thornwell scored 26 points for the team, playing both great offense and defense. The Gamecocks will travel to Phoenix on Saturday as one of the final four for the national semifinal matchup with the Gonzaga Bulldogs.
