  • Jackets, Vols win

    Buford and Andrew Jackson each posted first-round baseball wins in the Class AA district playoffs on Thursday, April 30.

    BHS, 23-0 and rated third in the final regular-season Class AA baseball poll, blanked Fairfield Central High of Winnsboro, 6-0 at Buford Park.

    Gage Hinson hurled the Jackets' win.

    AJ topped Pelion as the Volunteers took a 2-1 win over the Lions, with junior lefty Gunnar Lucas notching the win.

    I think our gardens and orchards drew most of the visitors to our farm in the summer months. Daddy would offer garden produce to millworkers, but they had to come get the vegetables.
    Mama canned all summer until the jars ran out or the garden stopped. We had a big surplus the summer of 1954, and Daddy told one of the mill supervisors to come to the farm and load up.

  • Elgazar races to win in Seth's Hope 5K road race


    Rain did little do put a damper on the Seth’s Hope 5K Road Race at the University of South Carolina Lancaster on Saturday, April 25.

    Central High School runner Mustapha Elgazar, 16, topped a 53-runner field in 19:16 during the rainy race at the USCL course.

  • IL Warrior booters post wins


    Indian Land, 11-3, caps its boys soccer regular-season schedule with two matches this week.

    The Warriors host Lancaster for the annual IL senior night match tonight, Wednesday at IL’s Reservation.

  • Prep softball teams set for playoffs


    Lancaster County has four softball teams in the Upper State playoffs.

    Region IV-AA softball champion Andrew Jackson, 20-6, closed regular season play with a 5-1 win over Indian Land on Friday, April 24.

  • Buford wins, now 22-0

     The Buford Yellow Jackets capped a perfect regular season – 22-0, 12-0 – with a 12-1 baseball win over Central of Pageland at the CHS field on Monday, April 27.

    Jackets’ senior right-hander Evan Flynn worked four frames in the win, which was halted in the fifth frame due to the mercy rule.
