  • Rock Hill man dies in IL wreck

    A man who had parked beside Harrisburg Road in Indian Land died Monday after another vehicle struck his car.
    Lancaster County Coroner Mike Morris identified the victim as 42-year-old Juan Munguia-Rubio of Rock Hill.
    Cpl. Bryan McDougald of the S.C. Highway Patrol said the accident happened about 6:19 p.m. as Munguia-Rubio sat in his 1993 Chevrolet four-door in the driveway of Loving Group Landscaping near the intersection of Harrisburg and Barberville roads.

  • Kershaw Hog Jam starts Friday

    KERSHAW – Kershaw’s signature event will take to the skies this year.
    The sixth annual Kershaw Hog Jam Festival kicks off Friday and runs through Saturday afternoon. And along with the expected tasty barbecue, participants will be able to watch from above in a helicopter.  
    For the first time, helicopter rides are being included in the festival, which is highlighted by a barbecue contest, plenty of other food, live music as well as games and activities for the entire family.

  • Alcohol petition up for vote

    A proposition to allow Sunday alcohol sales at Lancaster County restaurants is heading for the ballot.
    Organizers of a petition to have the proposition placed on the November 2012 general election ballot as a referendum announced last week the petition has been certified by the Lancaster County Voter Registration office.

  • ‘Rocky Horror Show’ hits the stage starting Friday

    With Halloween right around the corner, locals will be able to take in a classic musical that offers plenty of scares along with interesting twists and turns.
    The Community Playhouse of Lancaster County is putting on its production of “The Rocky Horror Show,” a 1970s British horror comedy that has been reproduced worldwide.
    The Community Playhouse will perform the musical at Stevens Auditorium at the University of South Carolina Lancaster. Show time is 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

  • Council considers voting location

    Lines stretched throughout the hallways of the county administration building, blocking offices and disrupting business for days, as droves of residents cast their absentee ballots.
    That was the scene during the last few election cycles, as local voters have increasingly turned to absentee voting as their voting style of choice. But with the surge in crowds have come problems with space, staffing and security for the county’s Voter Registration and Election Commission office.

    The Native American studies program and the Catawba pottery collection at the University of South Carolina Lancaster is getting some coast-to-coast exposure.

    It is being featured as one of three segments in a national television commercial for the University of South Carolina that is getting airplay during Gamecocks sporting events. It is also broadcast during “The Steve Spurrier Show.”

  • Harris Teeter pharmacy robbed

    INDIAN LAND – The pharmacy inside Harris Teeter No. 372 at Carolina Commons on Charlotte Highway (U.S. 521) was held up just before 12:50 p.m. Tuesday.

    Lancaster County Sheriff’s deputies responded immediately and are now combing the area looking for a suspect, who may be armed and left the store on foot. Tracking dogs are en route to the scene as well.
