A school field trip ended in flames for some South Middle School students on Friday.
Bryan Vaughn, safety and transportation director for the Lancaster County School District, said the 1990s model Thomas Built bus caught fire on Woodland Drive near Laurel Court about 7 p.m.
The bus was returning from a choral event at Carowinds.
The bus driver, Tim Bailey, noticed smoke coming from the back of the bus and pulled over, Vaughn said.
Bailey then noticed heavier smoke and flames and evacuated the 33 students and three teachers from the bus.
