    Authorities are looking for leads in an armed robbery that took place Monday night at the Swami Mart in Heath Springs. 

    Deputies with the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office came to the convenience store at 309 S. Main St. after receiving a call about the robbery. 

    A man entered the store at about 9:55 p.m., near closing time, armed with a black, small-caliber semi-automatic pistol, according to a sheriff’s office press release.

  • Kershaw man charged with attempted murder

    The arrest of a shooting suspect leads deputies to a loaded gun and other stolen property.
    The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office has charged Curtis Javon Sowell, of 638 Kershaw Country Club Road, Apt. 3C, Kershaw, with attempted murder, possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime and conspiracy.
    The charges stem from a June 7 incident in which a 25-year-old man was shot in the leg in the parking lot of Foxwood Apartments on Kershaw Country Club Road, according to a sheriff's office press release issued Monday afternoon.

  • Lancaster teen charged with attempted murder

    An 18-year-old has been charged in the shooting of another Lancaster teen over the weekend.
    The Lancaster Police Department announced Monday afternoon it has charged Deshaune Tillman, 110 N. Ferguson St., with attempted murder.
    Tillman shot Shaquille Lashaun Robinson, 18, once at about 10:45 p.m. Saturday in front of 116 Hazel Street, according to a police department press release.

    Five local teens put their heads together this spring to express why they think libraries are essential and won $2,000 for the Del Webb Library at Indian Land in a national video contest.

    The group – Samantha Hoelzer, Kendall Lierz, Lewis Lindsey, Lindsey Scott, and Ryan Scott – produced a short silent film featuring Sherlock Holmes to win first runner-up in the American Library Association’s “Why I Need My Library” teen video contest.

    When homeowner Bernard Patterson learned that his small frame house was going to be invaded and repaired this week by Salkehatchie Summer Service teenagers and volunteers bearing hammers, saws and paintbrushes, he only had one request.
    Patterson wanted Tyler to be one of them.
