    Ingredients
    1 cup whole-wheat graham flour
    ¼ cup all-purpose flour
    1⁄3 cup light brown sugar
    ¾ teaspoon baking powder
    ½ teaspoon baking soda
    ½ teaspoon kosher salt
    1⁄8 teaspoon cinnamon
    5 tablespoons unsalted butter, cubed and chilled
    ¼ cup local honey
    3 tablespoons whole milk
    ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

    Ingredients
    2 cups unsalted walnuts (or the nut of your choice)
    ½ cup flaxseed meal
    ½ cup shredded, unsweetened coconut
    ½ cup natural peanut butter (or the nut butter of your choice)
    ½ teaspoon salt
    ½ cup coconut oil
    1 tablespoon light agave nectar
    1 tablespoon vanilla extract
    1 cup dark chocolate chips

    Directions
    u Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with foil, set aside.

  • No Junk Food Granola Bars

    Ingredients
    1 cup old fashioned rolled oats
    ½ cup crispy rice cereal
    3 tablespoons oat flour (You can make your own by grinding old fashioned rolled oats in the food processor; measure after grinding)
    ¼ teaspoon salt
    ¼ teaspoon baking soda
    ½ cup coarsely chopped, unsalted almonds
    ½ teaspoon cinnamon
    2 tablespoons coconut oil, melted and slightly cooled
    3 tablespoons light agave nectar

  • Taylor receives U.S. Navy commendation

    U.S. Navy
    U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Corey Taylor, a Lancaster native, was recently awarded the Department of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal for meritorious service while serving with Mine-Countermeasures Squadron 7, in Sasebo, Japan.
    A 1987 Indian Land High School graduate and 24-year service veteran, Taylor served as the squadron’s operations officer from August 2010 to February 2012.
    Squadron commander, U.S. Navy Capt. Dan W. Brune made the presentation in February.  

  • Fire damages apartment complex

     

    A charred shingle peeled away from the exposed roof and slowly drifted to the ground as Angela Patterson surveyed the damage to her apartment Tuesday morning, April 10. 

    Patterson’s apartment, as well as four other units in the one-story building at the Westway Apartments complex, were damaged during a blaze about 7 a.m. in the 1500 block of Memorial Park Road.

    Lancaster Speedway finished the Carolina Crown event Saturday night in front of what most are saying was a record grandstands crowd at Lancaster Motor Speedway.

  • Council wants more info before funding 4-H agent position

    The fate of a local 4-H position hangs in the balance as Lancaster County Council considers whether to continue its funding. 

    That funding – $35,000 – provides a 4-H agent through the Clemson University Extension Service. It has been funded for decades, though council members discussed the feasibility of renewing the contract at its April 2 meeting. 

  • Cougars rally, top Bruins

    York snapped a 1-all tie with an eight-run sixth inning on the way to a 9-5 non-region baseball win over Lancaster at Doomsday Corner on Monday night.

    The Bruins, 10-9, rallied late, but couldn’t overcome the Cougars’ late lead.

  • Burglar wakes up man, flees into woods

    A trail of dropped items marked the path of a burglar who ran from a resident late last month. 

    Police responded to a home in the 400 block of Colonial Avenue just after 2:30 a.m. March 28, about a burglary that had just happened, according to a Lancaster Police Department incident report.

    For the second straight weekend, the University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers dodged a sweep by taking a win in a four-game Region X baseball series.
