County Council will vote on second reading to approve rezoning heavy industrial property to residential at Monday night's meeting.

Council approved first reading of the rezoning at its last meeting. Some council members believe that the county needs for the property to remain industrial to attract new manufacturing jobs to the county, while others believe that a new residential development will bring new life to the northern part of Riverside Road.

A year ago, the Buford High baseball team finished as the Region VIII-AA runner-up.Jackets’ coach Joe Wright said his team can again be in the thick of the battle this spring.“We have a good group of players back this season,” Wright said. “Defensively, we have a sound team and our hitting will come around with some of our younger players gaining experience.

Considering the local economic conditions, members of the Big Thursday Scholarship committee are pleased with the amount of money raised.

For the past several years, the committee has held a golf tournament in which corporate sponsors pledge money. There were nearly 30 sponsors at the 2007 tournament, which brought in $34,000.

Money raised provides scholarships for Lancaster County students attending either Clemson University or the University of South Carolina at Lancaster.

KERSHAW - The driveway to a home in Kershaw's Charlesboro community looks more like a muddy pond.

Deep holes in the driveway on Taxahaw Road are filled with water, with some holes at least 7 inches deep. Wooden posts run alongside the driveway, which in some areas is not much wider than 10 feet.

The house at the end of the driveway is home to five men, clients of Chester/Lancaster County Disabilities and Special Needs (DSN) Board. The home allows them to have some independence, and the men are like a family.
