  • Results of noise study loud, clear

    INDIAN LAND – To residents of Brookchase, the results of a noise study are loud and clear – the sound coming from Blue Dot and other concrete plants near their homes is excessive and violates county ordinances.

    To Lancaster County Administrator Steve Willis, it's a little more complicated.

    Brookchase residents say they have been suffering through unbearable loud noise generated from the Blue Dot concrete plant at 521 Perimeter Commerce Park since last year.

  • See colonial cooks in action Saturday at AJ Birthday Celebration

    When Scots-Irish settlers migrated to the Carolinas in the 18th century, they brought familiar names like Lancaster, Chester and York with them.

    They also brought what they had learned from cooking in the open hearths of their homes in Ireland and the Pennsylvania settlements.

  • Seneca halts Gold stars' state title run

    Seneca halted the Lancaster County Gold all-stars’ state title hopes, taking a 62-48 win in the semifinals of the U-14 boys basketball tournament at the Howard gym in Georgetown on Saturday afternoon.Seneca followed the win over Lancaster County with a 41-39 victory over Southern District champion Orangeburg to capture the U-14 state crown.In the win over Lancaster County, Seneca’s Blake Earle hit 35 points to lead the Western District champions to the 14-point win.

  • Charlotte chamber official: Economy isn't flatlining here

    The Lancaster Rotary Club hosted Tony Crumbley, vice president of research of the Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, as its guest speaker last Thursday.

    Crumbley presented numbers to his audience that show projected growth of Lancaster County and Mecklenburg County, N.C.

    Crumbley contends that Charlotte and the surrounding region are not in a recession.

    Here's why:

    – Mecklenburg County created 14,000 new jobs last year, and 1,326 firms moved to the county.

    – North Carolina created 68,000 new jobs last year.

  • Leash law in county's future?

    County Council members and residents of Lancaster - some dog lovers and others who have been dog bite victims - are working together to rework an ordinance concerning dangerous dogs.

    Council had proposed designating all pit bulls, American bulldogs and perro de presa Canarios, or Carnary dogs, as dangerous, regardless of whether they had attacked someone or not.

    Lancaster extended its Region III-AAAA baseball mark to 2-0 with a 3-1 home win over Clover on Tuesday night.The Bruins, 3-3-1, 2-0, used a three-run third inning to take control of the game.Josh Warfield highlighted the frame with his second straight two-run home run.Bryan Gainer also drilled a RBI-hit to boost LHS. Michael Catoe also had a hit in the inning.Senior hurler Nick Ferguson notched the win, going five innings and striking out nine. He allowed a run, five hits and hit a batter. Evan Byrd worked the final two frames for the save.

    BUFORD - Spartanburg Methodist College baseball coach Tim Wallace is finding fertile ground in familiar territory.

    Wallace, a Lancaster native and former Lancaster High School and Post 31 American Legion baseball star, added another county diamond ace to the Pioneers baseball fold this week.

    Buford High School star pitcher Christian Dickson signed with SMC, joining Lancaster High School senior pitcher-outfielder Nick Ferguson.
