    Social networks are a part of a larger schema that is oft called Web 2.0. Web 2.0 is the catalyst for the culture clash between those who embrace these tools and those who are just fine with the conventional methods.

  • Hopewell UMC completes new cooking shelter in time for spring fundraiser

    The men’s ministry of Hopewell United Methodist Church missed out on its fall barbecue chicken fundraiser in 2006.

    It was expected when they temporarily traded in their cooking tongs and aprons for trowels and hammers to construct an up-to-date, 1,500-square-feet cooking facility.

    But now, they are switching back.

    The new building – which started in April 2007 – two weeks after Hopewell’s 2007 spring barbecue – has been completed.

    Lancaster Motor Speedway awakens from the long, cold winter Saturday when the storied half-mile launches its 54th season in grand style with the Carolina Clash Super Late Models.Featuring some of the top drivers in the Southeast, the series hosts its first event for 2008 at LMS, a $5000-to-win 50-lap feature.Due to inclement weather last week, the Clash’s opener at Carolina Speedway was postponed, so now Lancaster hosts the opener.Last year, the series twice visited the LMS high banks and thrilled crowds with some dazzling racing as well as setting new track

  • Wynne vows change, if elected to council

    GREAT FALLS - Darla Kaye Wynne vows to make change in town government if she is elected in the April 8 election.

    Wynne is one of three people who filed for a two-year term on council.

    "I have the strength and convictions to follow through with anything that I start," Wynne said. "I am not a part of the local buddy system so I am not representing anyone other than the people that would elect me.

  • Doster selected featured sculptor

    The University of South Carolina Upstate has selected Lancaster resident Bob Doster, an internationally acclaimed artist, as the featured sculptor for the 2008-09 season. His unique style of metal design ranges from the whimsical feel of free-floating steel in multi-colored tables and accent pieces to the distinction of monumental sculpture.

    The Doster exhibition officially begins in April, where six pieces of his work will be showcased on the campus. An artist lecture and reception will be held in the fall.

  • IL's Jacobus to coach in North-South All-Star game

    INDIAN LAND – Indian Land High School girls basketball coach Tamara Jacobus will be among the high school basketball elite this weekend.Jacobus has been selected to serve as an assistant coach for the North team in the annual North-South All-Star basketball game at North Myrtle Beach High School.The girls’ game tips off at noon, with the boys’ all-star game set for a 2:30 p.m. start.“I’m looking forward to it,” said Jacobus, a 16-year coaching veteran who has a 228-115 hardwood record in leading the Lady Warriors.

  • 'County at fault for park delay'

    INDIAN LAND - You may not see a lot of heavy equipment near the U.S. 521 entrance of Edenmoor, but work continues at the huge residential community, and developers say an EMS station and community park will be complete by August.

    The first phase of homebuilding at Edenmoor continues. Sean Calloway, development manager for GS Carolina, the company developing Edenmoor, said 17 lots are under contract. When Phase 1 is finished, there will be 399 homes at Edenmoor, which will eventually have 2,000 homes.

  • IL Warriors down BHS booters, 7-5

    Indian Land defeated county rival Buford in prep soccer, taking a 7-5 win over the Jackets on Tuesday night at Jackets Stadium.IL forged an early 4-0 lead before the Jackets rallied to make it an interesting finish.BHS charged back to make it a 6-5 match at one point.Anthony Sweatt scored two goals, with his second tally lifting IL to the hard-fought win.IL coach Adam Cole saluted Alfredo Lavieri, who had three assists, for opening up the field.Stefano Sojo, Luke Lambert and Sweatt each scored two goals to pace the Warriors.<
