The University of South Carolina at Lancaster Lancers golf team competed in the Tusculum Invitational at the Links Country Club in Greeneville, Tenn., on March 8-9.Although the event was reduced to a one-day event, due to snow on March 8, the USCL team continued to show signs of improvement.The Lancers carded a 315 total, an improvement over last year’s average. Shorter College from Rome, Ga., won the event with a 288 total. Two USCL golfers – Drew Walters and Phillip Knezevich – finished in the elite field in the top 40.

When Cauthen Funeral Home on West Meeting Street closed, a new door opened for Crawford Funeral Home.

Crawford Funeral Home has been open on South Market Street for 32 years. But A. Glen Crawford,  president of the funeral home, said his business was running out of space, so he bought the former Cauthen Funeral Home building at 410 W. Meeting St.

“I have admired this facility for some time,” Glen Crawford said in his new office. “I just like the space. There’s much more operating space here.”

INDIAN LAND – A nuclear energy construction company is moving its headquarters into the former offices of HSBC Mortgage Services in Indian Land.

URS Corp. announced Friday that the company’s Washington Division has opened the URS Nuclear Center in Indian Land, which will serve as the headquarters for the Washington Division’s commercial nuclear energy engineering and construction business. The new office complements the division’s existing offices focused on the nuclear market in Princeton, N.J., and Aiken.

INDIAN LAND – Indian Land Republican Deborah Long announced last week that she will seek the District 45 seat in the S.C.  House of Representatives.

She will face Republican Bruce Miller of Sun City Carolina Lakes in the June 10 primary for the seat being vacated by incumbent Rep. Mick Mulvaney.

Mulvaney, a Republican from Indian Land, is running for the District 16 seat in the S.C. Senate, now held by Sen. Greg Gregory, who is not seeking re-election.
