  • Balcom-Brasington Wedding

    Courtney Michelle Balcom, 19, and Alexander Kyle Brasington, 20, were married at 10 a.m. May 19, 2014, at the Lancaster County Courthouse.
    The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Balcom of Monroe. She is a 2013 graduate of Monroe High School.
    The groom is the son of Daniel and Nancy Brasington of Lancaster. He is the grandson of Joyce Brasington of Lancaster and the late James Brasington. He is a 2013 graduate of Buford High School.
    Maid of Honor was Kaila Brasington of Lancaster, sister-in-law of the bride.

  • McCowan-Mooney Wedding

    Donna Mills McCowan and Michael Roy Mooney were married April 6, 2014, at Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Lancaster by the Rev. Rodger Anders.
    The bride is the daughter of the late Julian and Inez Mills.
    The groom is the son of the late John and Bonnie Mooney. He received an associate’s degree from York Technical College and is a maintenance technician with Thomas and Betts.
    After a honeymoon in Myrtle Beach, the couple lives in Lancaster.

    Miss Newton is the granddaughter of Olin and Brenda Newton, Lucinda Ross, all of Lancaster, and Bill and Gloria Ross of Richburg. She is a 2007 graduate of Buford High School and received a diploma in health science from York Technical College in 2010. She is a dental assistant at Heath Springs Dental Associates.

    The string of headlines on ethics issues over the past six years means the time has come to strengthen our laws. Recently, the House put the finishing touches on a bi-partisan Ethics Reform Act that passed 110-0.     Exactly 40 years ago this summer, a brash 36-year-old reformer running for governor called the state Senate “a den of thieves.” A majority of Democratic voters agreed with him, and Charles D. “Pug” Ravenel won the primary to become the Democratic Party’s nominee.

  • Man dies after jumping from car

    A Lancaster man, with outstanding warrants in York County and wanted by S.C. Probation, Pardon and Parole Services, died from injuries Wednesday, June 25, after jumping from a speeding vehicle that a S.C. State trooper was trying to stop on Riverside Road.
