Millions of people such as Lancaster native Kentez Montgomery use Internet social media every day to stay in touch with friends.
With just a few keystrokes, they can share joys, find old classmates, discuss music and even post pictures from that recent vacation.
On Sunday night, though, those Facebook “status updates” and “tweets” on Twitter took on more of a serious tone, as users posted the news that Osama bin Laden had been killed.

  • How do you feel about bin Laden's death?

Maybe you found out last night that elite U.S. Navy SEALS killed Osama bin Laden, the mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks that killed thousands of Americans. Maybe you found out when you woke up this morning. What was your reaction? Were you happy, sad, proud or even scared? If you would like to share your responses, you can do so by making a comment at the end of this file. We will publish some of them in the Wednesday edition of The Lancaster News.

  • Be realistic about ban on ‘sagging’

Gen. Larry Platt and Cotton Cole share similar views on a much-controversial fashion statement: they don’t like baggy pants.
Platt became an instant celebrity when he performed “Pants on the ground,” for “American Idol” judges last year. Cole, a Lancaster County council member, wants council to create a countywide ban on baggy pants.
The beginning lyrics of Platt’s song goes, “Pants on the ground, Pants on the ground, Lookin’ like a fool with your pants on the ground.”

  • Things sure are smelling better

Here we go again. It’s been a whole week since Easter and the great-grands are still begging me to hide the eggs, one more time.
Fortunately, somebody invented plastic eggs. The mess of real chicken-produced eggs from the coop in the back yard that came to life thanks to Mama’s boiling and dyeing efforts are a thing of the past.
As a child, my enjoyment of the egg-hunting didn’t last this long.
Mama started the spring cleaning right after Easter.

  • Officials optimistic about budget

Lancaster County School District officials are resigned to another tight year, but are cautiously optimistic about some aspects of this year’s budget after Tuesday night’s 2011-2012 budget work session.

While the district’s budget situation is still tight, officials say it doesn’t appear next year’s budget is going to require the type of deep cuts to personnel that marked last year’s 2010-2011 budget with the loss of 100 positions.
