Lightning struck a home in the Bell Town community and firefighter Darren Player jumped into action.
It was July 12, 1987. The county, in the midst of a drought, hadn’t seen rain in weeks.
An afternoon thunderstorm rolled through. Lightning crackled and popped all around, and when it struck, Player was the first to the Bell Town Volunteer Fire Department to drive the fire engine.
Player remembers the date well. And understandably so.
