  • Tee Time golf cart sets world speed record of 98.06 mph

    MOORESVILLE, N.C. – A unique golf cart built by an Indian Land company lived up to its reputation for speed with a mind-blowing, record-setting run Saturday, July 7.
    The Spirit of Lancaster County, South Carolina, also known as Tee Time, successfully completed a 98.06-mph, 7.4826-second eighth-of-a-mile (660 feet) run at the Mooresville, N.C., Dragway – fast enough to set a solid bar for the Guinness Book of World Records’ Fastest Electric Golf Cart.

  • Police drop alcohol charges against underage servers

    After consulting with several state law enforcement agencies, Lancaster police officers reconsidered and dropped a series of alcohol charges this week that had been filed against employees at a local bar.
    Lancaster Police Capt. Scott Grant said most of the charges filed against five employees of Good Time Charlies, 1366 W. Meeting St., were dropped Monday, July 9.  
    Grant said the charge of transfer of alcohol to a minor was dropped for bar manager Angela Renee Owens and bartender Jenna Horne.

  • Man reports Independence Day assault, robbery in front of county library

    Police are looking for three men in connection with the assault and robbery of a Lancaster man last week.
    The search began shortly after 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 4, when an 18-year-old man ran up to a Lancaster police officer who was assisting a motorist near the intersection of Chesterfield Avenue and South Market Street, according to a Lancaster Police Department incident report.

  • A call to the Brooklyn community

    Leaders in one of Lancaster County’s most crime-stricken communities are once again looking to foster positive change in the area.
    The second annual Brooklyn Avenue Community Fellowship is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, July 14, at Christ Deliverance Temple, 151 Brooklyn Ave.
    The event is an attempt to unite the community and provide inspiration and guidance for those who may need uplifting, said organizer Ora Minor, Christ Deliverance Temple pastor.

  • Heath Springs woman injured in wreck with semi

    A Heath Springs woman was injured in a car accident July 3 after troopers say she disregarded a stop sign and drove into the path of an oncoming tractor trailer truck.  
    S.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Billy Elder said the two-vehicle accident happened at 11:32 a.m. that day on North Matson Street (U.S. 521) in Kershaw.

  • Police seek man in shooting

    The search is on for a Lancaster man wanted in connection with the shooting of another man Monday evening, July 9. 

    Lancaster police officers have issued arrest warrants for Delrico L. McDow, 23, 780 Montcrest St., for the charges of attempted murder, possession of a firearm by a person convicted of a violent crime and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, according to a Lancaster Police Department press release.

  • We thank Karres for his 15 years of service

    I looked at the front page of the June 24 edition of The Lancaster News and saw the headline, “Firing stuns Karres.” I was stunned, too. I soon found out I was not the only one stunned.
    Many other Lancasterians were just as stunned. Karres didn’t know himself until he was called to the office of County Administrator Steve Willis, where Karres was informed he was fired, but no reason was given as to why he was fired.

  • It has been quite a run for Van Wyck’s Crawford

    Sports, often regarded as the games kids play, can be cruel. In a world of what-have-you-done-lately, athletes are often judged by their latest effort. And a performance by an athlete in the twilight of his career will impact how he’s remembered.
    If one wants to remember Olympic champion Shawn Crawford by his latest venture, then so be it.
    Crawford, a Van Wyck native and former Indian Land star athlete, came in seventh in an eight-man race in the 200-meter finals for a spot on the U.S. track and field team at the 2012 Summer Games in London.

  • Kershaw man finds hope after accident

    KERSHAW – On Oct. 30, 2010, Dale Anderson of Kershaw left his home to hunt on his father’s land, hoping to kill his second buck there.
    While on the venture, Anderson fell from his deer stand to the ground.
    Anderson used his cell phone to call his brothers for help. They got to him not too long after he called.
    The accident left Dale Anderson paralyzed from the waist down.
    Once he rehabilitated and returned home, Anderson found it was difficult to complete everyday tasks.

  • Rock Hill edges Post 31

    Lancaster Post 31 fell short in its bid to post its first seniors’ League V baseball championship in five seasons on Friday night at Rock Hill High School.
    Host Rock Hill Post 34, which won the League V title with a 13-3 mark, edged Lancaster 4-3.
    Rock Hill will host Spartanburg Post 28 in the S.C. American Legion baseball Upper State playoffs, while Lancaster, as the League V runner-up, will be at home to face Inman Post 45.
    The best-of-five series open Monday night at 7.
