    The annual Lancaster Motor Speedway’s car show is Saturday at the old Big Lots parking lot on the S.C. 9 Bypass East.

    The parking lot, located adjacent to Zaxby’s, is where LMS car shows were held in the past.

  • Pleasant Valley fire substation set to open

    The Pleasant Valley Fire Department is set to move equipment into its new substation on Harrisburg Road in the coming days, the latest step in a long-term plan to provide better fire protection for residents at the tip of the Lancaster County Panhandle.
    PVFD Chief Greg Nicholson said he hopes to move a fire engine into the 1,250-square-foot substation just east of the intersection with Barberville Road and have it operational this week or next.

  • Stolen truck used in Pageland burglary, dumped near Monroe

    Authorities from three law enforcement agencies are comparing notes after a work truck stolen from Kershaw was used in a smash-and-grab burglary in Pageland last week.
    The Chesterfield County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public for help in locating at least two people who rammed a truck into a grocery store in the late night hours of March 1.

  • Lancers push mark to 14-3

    The University of South Carolina Lancaster Lancers’ baseball team improved to 14-3, capturing five wins in their last two outings.

    USCL swept three games from the Greensboro College junior varsity team over the weekend and then took a pair of games from the Limestone University jayvees on Monday.

    The 2012 boys Bruin soccer team is comprised of upperclassmen with years of experience playing with each other.

  • Lady Vols top Lady Bruins, 2-1

    Andrew Jackson, fresh off capturing the Lancaster County Classic preseason softball tournament championship, downed county rival Lancaster, 2-1 at the LHS field on Tuesday night.

    Angela Sims’ second-inning two-run double proved to be the difference for the Lady Vols in the one-run win.

    Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office deputies are en route to a domestic shooting at a home in the 2900 block of J.B. Denton Road. Just after 6:10 p.m. Thursday, radio traffic indicated that a Lancaster County Coroner’s Office staff member was also heading there. Check back later for updates.

  • Nurse receives dhec award

    Hard work, perseverance and effort are just a few words that describe Leanne Bailey.
    Now, the Lancaster resident is garnering statewide accolades for her dedication to her job.
    Bailey received the S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control’s Health Services Monthly Award of Excellence for February 2012.
    Bailey is director of the Immunization division for the state Bureau of Disease Control.

  • Reducing sodium is hardest resolution

    By now, most New Year’s resolutions have fallen to the wayside.
    I make them every year. This year, after much thought and soul searching, I decided to tackle the hardest resolution of them all: I’m reducing the sodium in my diet.
    As far as resolutions go, it doesn’t have the popularity of “losing 10 pounds,” “paying off debt” or “reading the Bible through.”
