  • Wingate University honors Johnny Hammond

    The late Johnny Hammond, a Lancaster native, was recently honored at Wingate University.
    The mezzanine at the Wingate University football stadium has been named in memory of Hammond.
    The dedication ceremony was held on May 5, 2015 at Irwin Belk Stadium where a plaque was unveiled in Hammond's memory.
    An anonymous donor made a contribution to Wingate to honor Hammond who came to Wingate on a football scholarship after a stellar football career at Lancaster High School.

  • Lady Bruins rebound, face Union County

    Lancaster rebounded to earn a diamond rematch with defending Class AAA state softball champion Union County High School on Monday, May 18.
    Host Lancaster built an early lead and held on for an 8-6 win over Wren in a Class AAA Upper State championship series elimination game Friday, May 15.
    The Lady Bruins, with the two-run victory, will travel to Union to face the Lady Yellow Jackets for the Class AAA Upper State softball crown.

    Andrew Jackson punched its ticket to the Class AA state championship softball series in resounding fashion Friday, May 15 at the Lady Volunteers’ softball field.
    AJ, 26-6, drilled 11 hits on the way to an impressive 9-2 win over Crescent High School of Iva for the Class AA Upper State softball championship.
    The Lady Vols’ solid seven-run win advances AJ to the best-of-three Class AA state title series Monday, May 18 when coach Steve Middleton’s team faces Class AA Lower State champion Aynor High School.

  • Academic Magnet tops Indian Land 4-1 for Class AA soccer title

    Academic Magnet scored three unanswered goals in the second half to snap a 1-1 deadlock on the way to a 4-1 win over the Indian Land High School Warriors in the Class AA state championship soccer match Saturday, May 16, at River Bluff High School in Lexington.

    Raptors senior Reece Moore tallied three goals, two after the half to lift AM to its second straight state soccer title, the third in four years.

    Moore scored the Raptors first goal at the 33-minute mark, but IL tied the match on Jaordn Szustwal's goal about a minute later.
