  • Johnson posts exciting Super Street checkers

     

    Veteran driver Pebo Johnson captured an exciting Super Street win to highlight action at Lancaster Super Speedway on Saturday, Sept. 28.

    The Super Street front row had Andrew Baker and Steve Hinson, and at the green flag, Hinson, Baker,  Johnson and Cody Baucom roared into turn one battling for the lead.

  • LHS cross country team second in meet

     

    The Lancaster High cross country team split a home meet with Indian Land and Great Falls on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

    IL won the meet, with LHS second. Great Falls was third.

  • Four county players reap Tri-County honors

     

    Four Lancaster County high school football players, including two from Lancaster High School, reaped top honors at the weekly meeting of the Tri-County Coaches Association on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

    The LHS honorees included Bruins’ kicker Trevor Latham and defensive lineman Juanyae Richardson.

  • Bruins eye region opener

     

    Lancaster High makes a little history Friday, Oct. 3 when they Bruins venture to Chester High School.

    LHS, a Class AAAA team in the modern era, will play its first region Class AAA game as the Bruins launch III-AAA play at CHS.

  • Pope now part of the heavenly football game

    Some four years ago, a book, with Pope as the subject, was written and entitled “Do They Play Football in Heaven?”

    Pope envisioned a lofty place where the game is about the offense always producing and the defense always making the key stop.

    I recall that’s how Mike explained his thinking during a book-signing back in the spring of 2010 at Wingate University, his final coaching stop as a volunteer assistant line coach.

  • Eagles soar by Vols, 39-6

    PAGELAND – Central of Pageland continued its mastery over Andrew Jackson, thumping the Volunteers, 39-6 in a Region IV-AA football tilt at Pageland on Friday, Sept. 27.

    Central’s Daquan Baker-Moore and DeVonte Robinson each rushed for over a 100 yards as the Eagles rolled to a 33-6 halftime lead for their 19th straight win over AJ.

  • Knights ground Jackets, 26-7

    BUFORD – North Central’s Knights took away Buford’s game plan Friday night, Sept. 26 and used it for themselves.

    North Central used a solid ball-control ground game that vaulted the Knights to a 26-7 Region IV-AA road victory at Jackets Stadium.

    The Indian Land Warriors are clearly comfortable playing at home, a stadium they call The Reservation.

  • Bruins claw Lions, 56-8

    RICHBURG – The Lancaster Bruins got offensive and got back on track.

    LHS, coming off a 14-0 shutout loss at Camden last week, rebounded with resound on the way to a 56-8 road win over Class A foe Lewisville High School on Friday, Sept. 27.

    Landmark Community Newspapers Inc. (LCNI), the parent company of The Lancaster News and its sister papers, Carolina Gateway, Chester News & Reporter and Pageland Progressive Journal, recently announced the winners of its 2013 editorial and page design contest.

    Seven awards were captured by TLN staff, both individually and as a team.
