    COLUMBIA – Emotions were raw as the Rev. Frankie Melton sat in a Richland County courtroom and watched as the man who killed his sister-in-law, Hope Melton, pleaded guilty to the brutal 2011 slaying on Wednesday afternoon, March 4.

    The Katawba Valley Land Trust, located in Lancaster, received two conservation easements at the close of 2014 which protects a total of 380 acres. 

  • Hildreth-Pardue Engagement

    Mr. and Mrs. Mark Hildreth announce the engagement of their daughter Amber Lee Hildreth, all of Lancaster, to Daniel Earl Pardue of Heath Springs.
    The wedding is planned for 2 p.m. May 30, 2015.
    Miss Hildreth is the granddaughter of Lester and Mildred Hildreth. She is a 2011 graduate of Buford High School and is a student at the University of South Carolina School of Nursing.

    The wedding is planned for April 11, 2015.

  • Whitesells celebrate 64 years

    William Eli Whitesell III and Lynn R. Whitesell celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on Jan. 14, 2015, with a dinner given by their children. The couple married in Lancaster on Jan. 14, 1951.
    The couple has three children, William Eli Whitesell IV, Lark Whitesell Long and Lynn Whitesell. They have five grandchildren.
    William retired from an airline cockpit crew after 38 years.
    Lynn retired from being a registered nurse after 61 years.

  • Charles and Maggie Bowers celebrate 50 years

    Charles F. and Mechthild Diener Bowers celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 29, 2014, with a dinner given in their honor by their family. The couple married at the Lancaster County Courthouse on Dec. 29, 1964.
    The couple has two daughters, Caroline Bowers Hasty and her husband Glyn S. Hasty and Joan Bowers and Alan Johnson. They have three grandchildren, Gregory Sims, Georgie Hasty and Cara Hasty.

    The bride is the daughter of Wayne and Laura Boone of Lancaster. She is the granddaughter of Sylvia Hegler and the late Lambert Hegler, Angie and Dewey Small, Gerald McInnis and Jerry and Annie Grace Boone, all of Lancaster. She is a 2009 graduate of Buford High School and received an associate’s degree in science in 2013 from the University of South Carolina Lancaster. She works for ArrowPointe Federal Credit Union.
