  • Brecht-Miles Engagement

    Lynn and Vickie Brecht announce the engagement of their daughter, Misty Lynn Brecht, to Stephen Bart Miles, all of Lancaster.
    The wedding is planned for 4 p.m. April 5, 2014, at HomePlace Bed and Breakfast in Lancaster.
    Miss Brecht is the granddaughter of Dianne Catoe and the late Roy Charles Catoe, Susan Boyd and Nada Funderburk, all of Lancaster.
    She is a 2008 graduate of New Covenant Christian School and a 2013 graduate of Anderson University with a bachelor’s degree in interior design. She works as an interior designer.

  • Riggs-Ebanks Engagement

    Robert and Cheryl Riggs of Lancaster and Michell and Rob Gay of Greensboro, N.C., announce the engagement of their daughter, Samantha Nicole Riggs, to Caleb Harrison Ebanks, both of Heath Springs.
    The wedding is planned for 5 p.m. June 28, 2014, at Coker Ranch.
    Miss Riggs is the granddaughter of Robert and Terry Riggs of Lancaster, and Jane Rosen of Beaufort, N.C. She is a 2012 graduate of Lancaster High School and is studying business management and graphic arts at the University of South Carolina. She works at Taco Bell.

  • Christopher-Phillips Engagement

    Danny and Evie Christopher announce the engagement of their daughter, Morgan Christopher, to Jonathan Phillips, all of Lancaster.
    The wedding is planned for 2 p.m. May 10, 2014, at Temple Baptist Church in Lancaster.
    Miss Christopher is a 2009 graduate of Lancaster High School and received a degree in dental assisting in 2013. She works as an orthodontist assistant.

  • Arants celebrate 60 years

    Thomas and Betty Todd Arant celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Feb. 22, 2014, with a luncheon at Jomars given by Wanda Wells and Jessie Hoffman.
    They were married Feb. 20, 1954, at First A.R.P. Church in Lancaster.
    The couple has two children, Wanda Wells and her husband, David, and Jessie Hoffman and her husband, T.R. They have four grandchildren, Brook Biery, Katie Montgomery, Garrett Hoffman and Grant Hoffman.
    Tom and Betty both retired from Grace Bleachery.

    I loved some things about prom when I was a principal early in my career.

    I loved seeing how hard juniors and their teacher sponsors worked to transform a plain banquet hall into a magical, glittering place.

    I loved watching the limos pull up, full of students so excited about a night they’d been looking forward to for years.

    I loved seeing the boys decked out in their tuxes and the girls in fairy-tale gowns.

  • Deputies arrest Hill for car assault

     An Indian Land man is behind bars after a highway assault led to a prolonged chase with deputies and ended with the man barricaded inside a home. 

    Chad Spencer Hill, 37, 113 Whitesides Drive, was charged Tuesday, March 18, with first-degree assault and battery and failure to stop for blue lights and sirens, said Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile.

    Lancaster County school board members voted Tuesday evening, March 18, to write off two snow make-up days and postpone another until the end of the school year, a move that means spring break is back on.
