  • Man charged with smoking marijuana in county jail

    A Charlotte man being held at the Lancaster County Detention Center on misdemeanor charges earned a felony charge after guards caught him with marijuana.
    Juan Jose Rosario, 22, was initially arrested the night of Dec. 5 on misdemeanor charges of driving without a license, first offense, possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
    According to the incident report, a guard walking his hourly rounds noticed the smell of marijuana smoke coming from Rosario’s cell about 2:21 a.m. Dec. 6.

  • Midnight blast alarms residents, blamed on explosive Tannerite

    A Tuesday night explosion that shook houses all over south central Indian Land appears to have been caused by men shooting at an explosive target, investigators say.
    The 911 calls began flooding in at 11:54 p.m. from residents in the Shelley Woods subdivision and Laurel Hill and Green Pond roads, according to a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

  • Several big-ticket thefts reported across county

    The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office received seven calls Monday reporting large-item thefts over the weekend totaling more than $16,700.
    Among the things stolen were three utility trailers, which in a least one case appears to have been used to carry away an item from a nearby home.
    According to the incident report, an employee of Sunshine Rental reported about 9:50 a.m. Monday that someone had stolen an Amana central heating and air-conditioning unit from a home the company owns at 1259 Shiloh Ranch Road in the Antioch Acres community.

  • Pistol, pills and pot put Lancaster man in jail

    A Lancaster man was arrested on multiple drug and weapons charges Saturday morning after a Taylor Street resident saw him sitting on a neighbor’s front porch.
    Roshune Lamarr Carelock, 31, 268-B Knollwood Drive, was charged with two counts of possession of Schedule I controlled substance with intent to distribute, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a stolen pistol, unlawful carrying of a pistol and possession of a pistol by a convicted felon.

    From Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office reports:
    ◆ The owner of Covenant Landscape Group reported Aug. 15 that someone entered the business at 9559 Charlotte Highway, Suite B, and stole $5,900 worth of tools and equipment over the weekend. The incident report said there was no sign of forced entry.
    Among the missing tools were a Wacker brand plate tamp, two Stihl blowers, two Husquavarna concerete saws and two pole hedge trimmers.

  • Nappers nabbed on drug charges in Walmart lots

    If you’re going to pass out or fall asleep in your car in a Walmart parking lot, be careful about what’s in the car with you.
    Three people were arrested this week after two separate incidents in Indian Land and Lancaster during which officers were called to awaken people in their cars and reported finding drugs inside.
    The most recent incident occurred about 1 a.m. Wednesday and resulted in the arrest of an Indian Land man on methamphetamine charges.

  • Glock .45, stack of cash, and backpack stuffed with heroin, crack

    After a months-long investigation, a Heath Springs man was charged with heroin trafficking after his arrest Thursday while he was carrying $9,500 in cash, a .45-caliber pistol and a backpack full of drugs.
    Jarvis Mandrell Anthony, 37, of 2520 Tucker Road, Heath Springs, was arrested on multiple drug and weapons charges outside his home during the culmination of a Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office drug investigation that began last year, sheriff’s spokesman Doug Barfield said.

  • Lancaster man charged in pot bust

    A Lancaster man was arrested Thursday afternoon after 1.2 pounds of marijuana with a street value of about $1,500 was found in his car during a traffic stop Thursday.
    Charles Vincent Brown, 32, of 2141 Green Peach Road, was charged with second-offense possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and resisting arrest.
    Police also seized a 9mm Glock pistol found inside his car and several bank debit cards, as well as more than $1,800 cash that Brown had on him at the time.

  • Internet scam costs IL man, daughter $11K

    A 65-year-old Indian Land man was the target of a so-called “sweetheart scam” that ended up costing him and his daughter more than $11,000.
    According to a July 27 Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the man’s 35-year-old daughter said her father began messaging a woman who called herself Sharon Jones in early June.
    The daughter said Jones eventually convinced her father she was stuck at the Canadian border and couldn’t get across without his financial help.

  • Women’s car hit by gunfire

    The Lancaster Police Department is investigating an attempted murder that occurred Monday night when someone fired shots at a woman and her passengers as they drove down an east Lancaster street.
    No one was hurt in the incident.
    According to the Lancaster Police incident report, the shooting happened about 10:20 p.m. as the 20-year-old driver and her 23- and 19-year-old passengers were traveling on East Gay Street.
