  • Man flees traffic check, cops stop him at gunpoint

    City police were forced to stop a motorist at gunpoint Saturday night on South Main Street after he refused to stop at a routine traffic checkpoint.
    Jasper Lee Haggins, 72, of 969 15th St., was arrested for driving under suspension and second offense driving under the influence.
    According to a Lancaster Police Department incident report, police had set up a driver’s license checkpoint near the intersection of Chesterfield Avenue and McCardell Street.

  • Tiff at bank spirals out of control, man jailed

    A Kershaw man’s dispute with a bank over cashing a check escalated into a screaming match and threats against a Lancaster County sheriff’s deputy, resulting in serious criminal charges.
    Hykeim Malik Williams, 19, of 509 W. Hilton St. was arrested after causing a disturbance at the Wells Fargo Bank at 101 N. Hampton St. in Kershaw March 24.
    The incident report said Williams became irate and after being told he and his girlfriend had to open an account in order to cash a Wells Fargo check they’d been given.

  • Man charged with attacking 2 officers during DUI arrest

    A Kershaw man faces multiple charges after wrestling with two police officers near Springs Memorial Hospital early Sunday morning.
    Bobby Kirkland Robinson, 44, of 8219 Feather Run Road, was arrested just after 3:30 a.m. for driving under the influence and resisting arrest.
    A Lancaster Police Department incident report said Robinson grabbed one of the officers around the waist, tried to take his gun and then tried to put the other officer in a headlock after failing a field sobriety test.

  • 2 women charged in Kershaw shooting

    Lancaster Count sheriff’s deputies have arrested two women wanted in connection with the March 19 shooting of a Kershaw man.
    Jazzy Marressa Gripper, 24 and friend Quandisha Osheyanda Massey, 20, are each charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting of Jaquavis Beckham, 20, the father of Gripper’s child.
    Sheriff’s office spokesman Doug Barfield said deputies arrested Massey on March 25 and Gripper March 26, both without incident.

  • AJ student arrested on drug charges

    A student falling asleep in class at Andrew Jackson High School last week led to the arrest of one student on drug charges the suspensions of four others.
    Armando Samuel Rivera, 18, of 1894 Flat Creek, Kershaw, was arrested March 17 on two felony counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance near a school.

  • Sheriff’s new traffic unit makes drug arrest

    An N.C. man was arrested on drug and weapons charges during a traffic stop in Lancaster last Friday, an arrest Lancaster County Sheriff Barry Faile characterized as an early success for his department’s new traffic unit.
    Michael Cody Wilson, 22, of Bessemer City, N.C., was arrested for possession with intent to distribute marijuana and carrying a pistol.
    A release from the sheriff’s office said a deputy stopped Wilson’s 2015 Chevrolet Impala on S.C. 9 Bypass East about 10:15 p.m. because its taillights were not visible.

  • 2 women sought in man’s shooting

    Lancaster County sheriff’s investigators are looking for two Kershaw women in the shooting of a man about 9:55 Saturday night.
    Sheriff’s office spokesman Doug Barfield said investigators believe either Jazzy Marressa Gripper, 24, or friend Quandisha Osheyanda Massey, 20, fired the shot that hit the father of Gripper’s child, Jaquavis Beckham, 20.
    Barfield said the two women had been at Beckham’s home at 503 W. Richland St., Kershaw, when he and Gripper began arguing.

  • IL couple's pickup recovered, deputies seek SUV occupants

    The Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office released images of a vehicle in Matthews, N.C., believed to have picked up two suspects who tied up and robbed an elderly Indian Land couple at home in early February.
    The sheriff’s office said in a statement that the suspects, wearing black clothes and masks, walked up on a 78-year-old woman on Cureton Taylor Drive about 8:30 p.m. Feb. 3 as she was walking her dog.
    The men forced her back inside with a knife and a gun, where they tied her and 80-year-old husband to chairs and covered their heads with blankets.

  • Shooting suspect arrested in Charlotte, charged with attempted murder

    The man wanted for allegedly shooting a friend last month at a “Mill Hill” home is now in custody.
    Markevius Grafton Harper, 23, 301 Camden Highway, is jailed at the Lancaster County Detention Center. Bond has been denied.
    Harper is charged with attempted murder, aggravated assault and battery, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a violent crime.

  • Woman charged with hitting officer after fender bender

    A Lancaster woman spent Wednesday night in jail, charged with assaulting a police officer after a minor traffic collision near the Lancaster High School soccer field.
    Tammy Lynn Doskocil, 41, of 2803 Rock Chimney Circle, was arrested for assault on a police officer while resisting arrest, public disorderly conduct and improper backing.
    Doskocil was released on bond Thursday.
